Cubs f/x: Soft in the Middle: Center Field Options for the 2010 Cubs
Hendry better be smart about this one.

That better be a salt block rather than just a grain
as it relates to Fuld’s defense.
The notion that he is a below average defensive CF is insanity.
What do people who've seen him in the field live
think of Fuld’s defense? UZR thinks he’s horrid – but it’s a miniature sample size.
Is he traded yet?

UZR means absoulely nothing in 160 innings
Like, literally nothing. A scouts opinion is much more valuable.
Indeed
If, as most of our eyes tell us, Fuld is a plus defender in center, he starts to close the gap to Crisp/Cameron. But it’s all projections etc. The point is, well, aim high Hendry, or save the bucks.

Honestly?
Above average, but wildly overrated by many on this board.

Fan projections would be helpful
None yet (shakes finger at self)

This is absolutely correct
Although I still say Cameron is a better fit than Byrd, even if the money is equal.
Nice article

On Fuld’s defense – I really think he might, if given the opportunity, be the best defensive center field option out of all the names listed.
Camp – I’m not sure his defensive at centerfield is anything to write home about. His value lies more with that, he’s a very versatile guy who can play a number of positions, but I don’t think that he would be considered a top defensive asset at shortstop or centerfield. Capable to solid, perhaps.
Adduci’s defense might bump him up a tad. I don’t think he’s as good as Fuld, but he’s a solid guy to project as a possible depth OF type with his versatility. He’ll be in Iowa.
Jackson – Most expect that he should be able to stick in CF as a potential good to plus defensive player. He’s too far away (even if he does get rushed to AA to start the year, there’s a very slim chance that he is up in the bigs in 2010. Heck, I’m not expecting him until 2012, tbh, although 2011 is possible).
Guyer isn’t really a consideration for 2010. He has to get his bat back on track, and even if he does, he’s likely slated for a corner role.
If Brett Jackson is the Cubs CF of the future (and I hope he is)...
…I think he plays a key role here. If, ideally, he’s not up until 2012, then a pretty straightforward solution here is to sign Mike Cameron to a two-year deal and move forward with that clear plan in place. I know many of us would prefer signing a player of Cameron’s age to only one year, but I have a feeling he’ll want at least two years anyway.
