I like the intranet idea.
Several teams already offer free wifi to fans. The Cubs could try that, too.
I’m not opposed to a Jumbotron — and note they said “not in the immediate future” — and I also wouldn’t be opposed to a ribbon board on the upper deck facing, as long as it provided more information along with advertising.

YAY
not long ago I saw, and was one of them, who after, after a play everyone had a transister radio up to their ear. Anyone remember those things? I still have the one I brought to a game.

Most important quote from the article IMO
“The historic centerfield scoreboard has no room for video replay, and is landmarked anyways and can’t be touched.”
This should put all rumors and propaganda to rest everytime we have a jumbo-tron post in the future.
a jumbotron behind the LF bleachers could be done
without messing with the scoreboard
baseball is a game of outs......pop out, ground out, line out, pitch out, strike out, fly out, and Fox and Bud's favorite black out
I know that
But the quote was posted because people on here in the past have debated if they could or would tear down the scoreboard. The point is, they won’t/can’t/never will.
eh, I don't really see the point in having wifi at Wrigley
your their for a game, not to make a business transaction or follow urgent fantasy baseball updates.
As opposed to a jumbotron, why exactly would we need it? Sure it gives stats and lineups, but isn’t that what a scorecard is for? You’ll get highlights yes, but it takes away from the tradition..

This replay is brought to you by Armitron.
It also would create a couple new production jobs for the Cubs. Someone has to edit packages and potentially “entrance videos” when each player has his first at-bat.
It could also provide stats for the casual Cubs fan who doesn’t know beyond the starting lineup.
that's why they have the electronic line under the scoreboard
gives the stats you really need at the game
Wrigley Bound in the Summer of 2010
No, it doesn't.
There is no place in the ballpark where they put errors. Most new parks have individual player stats that get updated with every at-bat, or for pitchers with every out or hit or walk. They need some place to do that.

That can be done on a ribbon board
that traverses the upper deck facade from end-to-end.
There is enough room on the 2 UC ribbon boards going all the way around the arena to put up enough stats to please anyone.
Just win the next game...!
I'm 100% in favor of a ribbon board.
I’m surprised they aren’t doing it this offseason.

I not so sure about the ribbon board,
the content in ribbon board format is usually not very detailed, and is typically very hard or cryptic to read, and the content is temporary – being constantly swapped out for other info. Worse, especially at WF, it would give a video game like movement that can be distracting. I was at Soldier Field yesterday, and I find the ribbons there to be very distracting, it is about 80% advertising, and isn’t what the Wrigley Field should be – IMHO.
That said, I think Wrigley needs constant upgrade and improvements to stay viable. The bleacher project a few years back I though was excellent example of a well thought out improvement. But, these billboards tacked onto the bleachers, and potentially a ribbon board, need a bit more thinking and feedback. I would like to see a Wrigley 5 year plan or something with more detailed vision, so that we could understand the bigger picture, instead of dribbling out smaller changes that at least appear disconnected.

I have never had trouble...
… reading info on ribbon boards at other parks. In any case, it would be MORE info than we have now.
I think they DO have a long-term plan, which centers around building the Triangle Building.

No way this would ever happen but...
what if they put a Jumbotron right in front of the scoreboard? As long as they don’t alter/remove the existing structure, they shouldn’t be in violation of landmark status.
Obviously, the Jumbotron would stick out farther than the current setup and additional support infrastructure would be needed so some bleacher seats in the upper section would probably be lost, but of course scoreboard ad revenue would dwarf that.
Again, no way a new owner would ever do this, esp. a owner/fan like Ricketts. I was just curious about this from a theoretical aspect.

I doubt the structure would hold it.
Really, unless you could put them side-by-side, you have no idea how large a Jumbotron would have to be. A decent one would probably have to be four times the size of the existing board.

oh I know it'd take up a bigger footprint than the existing scoreboard.
probably have to have beams/girders/columns out on the sidewalk on either side of the bleacher entrance too.
Again, not a very plausible option at all. Was just trying to be creative about getting around the landmark restrictions if need be.

i know as a ball hawk you would not like it
but a jumbotron in LF to block the Casino bldg would work and be better than some big ad

To see the instant replay is awesome
It’s all the other crap that gets put on the thing is what would be upsetting.
Besides, the landscape of the ballpark would prohibit a screen of any appreciable size to go in.
Just win the next game...!
