Pirates Concerned with Cedeno's Mental Lapses
This sounds familiar. From Pirates manager John Russell:
"It's just consistency. Ronny has so many tools, as we saw, but he needs to maintain his concentration. You got the sense that he wasn't always locked in."

haha, awesome!

Took 'em long enough
Cedeno played 46 games for them, you’d think after a game or two they would have figured this out.

The man OVERAN SECOND BASE ON A WALK
The single dumbest thing I have ever seen and that includes Milton throwing the ball in the stands with two out but mostly cause that caused no damage and Ronnie took us out of game against the freaking Cardinals.

Me either Jim
Ronny has thrown the ball in the dugout similarly to Milton
But in Cedeno’s defense…he’s a moron.
I feel bad for laughing about this.
But not so bad that I stop laughing.

Ronny Cedeno is not a very smart person
Why is it that three teams so far haven’t figured that out?
If Ronny hasn't figured out a way to concentrate by now...

Maybe he needs Ritalin
He wouldn’t be the first player who uses it to concentrate on the field.
As I recall, in 2006 and 2007 he was looked down upon for partying more and it affecting an on field performance. Dusty Baker didn’t seem to care too much. Lou sent him to the minors. We all know Cedeno got much better down there and had a torrid few months. When he was called back up he had some high spots including a curtain calling grand slam.
He doesn’t need anymore wakeup calls but perhaps maybe a quick answer such as medication can do the trick!
Hey, ya never know.
If he does have an undiagnosed condition that’s causing these lapses, I hope he gets it taken care of. Until that time, he’s just not an opposing player I’ll ever spend much time worrying about.

It sounds like the Pirates desire to build the team
around Cedeno have been put on hold. Too bad.
He seems like the perfect leader to keep the team below .500 for many years to come.

Ronny Cedeno has always been plagued with a low baseball IQ
Shame on Pittsburgh if they are now just realizing this. They needed to do their homework on Cedeno. I guess this is why they are such a wretched rudderless franchise right now.

I don't think it was homework but more wishful thinking
Everyone has seen spectacular defense and really good days with at-bats. Perhaps Pirates thought in a low pressure scenario he could blossom?
I guess I missed that "spectacular defense" thing...
…because the Ronny Cedeno I recall very rarely wowed in the field and was prone to the dumb play more often than not

I will tell you first hand
I was at a game in 2006 when he had a defensive gem that was spectacular. From that point forward I wanted to believe he had a future. Obviously he did not. But when he had a chance to shine without causing an error (which was rare) you saw some pretty nice stuff on the field and that I can’t take away.
Cedeno...
… had a knack for making tough plays look easy… and screwing up the easy ones.

He had a knack

Exactly.
I saw a Cedeno defensive gem first-hand in 2006, too. He made an amazing over-the-shoulder catch in shallow left field. Unfortunately, if you can’t consistently make the routine plays, you’re not going to do your team a lot of good. I think this is why Theriot always gets good marks in many defensive metrics – he’s pretty consistent with routine plays despite having what our eyes tell us is poor range and a weak throwing arm.
