I just threw up a little in my mouth

+1
Knowing Hendry, a four year deal for 9 million per annum is on the table
I guess I'm just a worrier, that's why my friends call me whiskers

You forgot the NTC

I'm hoping Jim has learned SOMETHING from his past mistakes
but you’re right, in exchange for no NTC, it will probably be 5 years at 12 million per

I'm actually not opposed to this.
At the “right” price of course.
I would rather have a veteran long man / spot starter instead of a youngster. The role Jon Lieber was intended to fill. IMO, veterans can handle the inconsistent work better.
Price is obviously key, but I hope we’ll add one more veteran arm to the bullpen.
That's as far as I would go.
Looper’s a pretty good inning-eater. Beyond that — his numbers last year were pretty bad. He did post 14 wins, but that, as we know, is the most meaningless stat for a starting pitcher. He had the second-highest run support (5.8 runs per start) in the NL (Jorge de la Rosa was first) — the only reason he could “win” 14 games with an ERA that high.
If it’s for any more $ than that, he can go back to the Cardinals or Brewers.

Let's hope Jim is saying that.
He makes me nervous when players let it be known they WANT to come here

Totally agree, Al.
Which is why my “offer” would be only for a bullpen / spot starting role. If he thinks he is walking in here to be a guaranteed rotation guy, he can keep walking.
IMO an “innings eater” would be a good idea for this Cubs squad.
In other news, I would like to pitch for the Cubs
Hopefully the chances of it happening are just as likely for me as for Looper

Well, let's see.
You’re a PhD student, right? So you’re probably younger. You’d also get the minimum.
Sounds like you’d be a better choice.

All he has to do is take Hendry out to dinner and explain how he's really good he is and that he wants to help the team win.
As I've told you before, I never repeat myself.

It's the media's fault!

or get Hendry into a hospital bed
Dare I give the Cubs my heart again?

I'm so glad this phrase includes the words "a hospital."

No
NO NO NO…just because he wants to do something doesn’t mean we’ll even listen to him…does it…please say no.

May I just say
That poor Braden is one unfortunate looking fellow
I want to pitch for the Cubs too.
That doesn’t make it a good idea.
But I’m willing to negotiate.
Now only 12,859 on the "Cubs Season Tickets Waiting List"...
Actually, I'm holding out for the "No Work" clause like a certain former Cubs right fielder who got sent home and was still paid.
Wouldn’t happen at my job.
I know, I know, it’s contractual for MB. And it wasn’t like it was HIS fault for being sent home.
…oh, wait a minute…it WAS his fault.
Now only 12,859 on the "Cubs Season Tickets Waiting List"...
About the only positive thing I can say about the Loop...
…is he’s made 30 or more starts the last three years running. Other than that, as expected, he fell to pieces this past season when he left Dave Duncan’s guiding hand. He’s a desperation option at best.

You know who else wants to pitch for the Cubs? Rich Harden!
sigh

I wouldn’t take either of those guys.

You are probably right
I would be more impressed if he can get him to lose weight.

No way
unless he’d sign for about $1 million per.

You watch. It will be the Jason Marquis, Alfonso Soriano contract negotiations all over again.

Most HR allowed last year
1. B. Looper – MIL – 39
2. J. Guthrie – BAL – 35
3. B. Arroyo – CIN – 31
4. J. Blanton – PHI – 30
5. 3 players tied with 29 HR’s allowed
BTW, most HR allowed by a Cub last year was Rich Harden with 23.
