I love
How all of these “rainbows and sunshine” optimistic stories about the Cubs ST moving to FL always come from a Florida paper.

Indeed
I’ll have more to share on Florida’s involvement once its all been finalized, but needless to say the Cubs were honest about their intentions and everyone here understands that its the longest of long shots.

The comment on...
… a Florida site giving the Cubs “the best chance to win the division each year” is absolute nonsense.

Right on
I thought the same thing – like what is this another stupid superstition that somehow Cubs fans will latch onto? DUMB.
"Ask Dad. He'll know. And on the off chance he doesn't, he'll make something up"
The fact that...
… most of the last 15 World Series winners (since the wild card began in 1995) have trained in Florida (total: 12 of 15, exceptions: 2001 D’backs, 2002 Angels, 2005 White Sox) has more to do with the fact that seven of those 15 teams are named Yankees and Red Sox, and the fact that until 2000, only eight of 30 teams trained in Arizona, than with any magic elixir in the Florida water.
In fact, since 2001 — nine years — three of the nine WS winners trained in Arizona, despite the fact that there have been fewer teams training in AZ than FL every single season up to now.
The “Florida trains winners” statement is a crock.

Florida
logistical advantage = no
weather advantage = no
economic impact advantage = no
hmm….ok. How about, “Florida: The Training Ground for World Series Champions!”
Think they’ll buy it?!

Gotta give them credit
I thought this would fly over once the county put together that cockamaime “committee” with the tourism board. But heck, they got a meeting and heck of alot of back and forth on BCB over the issue. Which remains unresolved!

You guys can laugh and pooh-pah all you want...
…but it’s going to come down to whoever puts up the best offer (read: $$$$). I doubt Ricketts will give a “hometown discount” to Mesa. The only “edge” Mesa (or Arizona) has would be if the offers are basically equal.
Is Ricketts using Florida as leverage? Gimme a “Hell yeah!” Of course he is – he’d be a fool not to. But there’s no law or rule that says that leverage can’t somehow end up being the best deal. And if it is, why wouldn’t he take it?
Lou Brown: "My kinda team, Charlie, my kinda team..."
True enough.
But I suspect that Mesa will do whatever they have to, to trump the FL offer (if there is one). They know the Cubs drive the spring training engine in Arizona.

C'mon
Just because a county in FL, rounds up the troops – forms a committee, and then blasts every paper in a 200 mile radius does not mean that Florida has an offer/best offer. I agree with you, if by some chance Florida can pull one out of their tail then alright we’re moving to Florida! But as you noted, this is a gift for Ricketts and the Cubs because it does give them the leverage to turn the screws on Mesa to commit to building exactly the kind of facility they want. I find it interesting how cryptic most of these articles are (from FL papers no less). Sounds to me like they called a meeting – Ricketts and his management jumped on it – and they walked over to some vacant land and dreamed a dream of a Florida Wrigleyville. Now translating that into dollars – and actual sources of dollars is another thing.
I think that the county officials are simply trying to show they put out the best effort – gotta luv the “no increases in taxes” bit.
