Rooftop Flags
Can anyone provide a link or a list where of all the flags flying on Wrigley's rooftop? I've been wondering this for a while now...

I think I remember the past year's...
official program had a list of all the rooftop flags and their meanings… I don’t have mine handy right now, but I’m pretty sure there in there, if someone else has it.
They had a great article in Vineline a few months ago too.
I am sure it’s online somewhere too.

One of my favorite articles ive seen.
Hopefully for those who dont get Vine-Line, they’ll put it in a scorecard.

Your answer can be found...
… here. Scroll down a little, it’s under “Roof Flags”.

Nobody from the current roster
Unless they add a new flag this year (Z or Ramirez?), there won’t be any player honored from the current roster. I wonder when or if this happened before.

I don't think those flags were up there before the Wood 20K game.
Anyone specifically remember what year they went up? I don’t.

from what i understand
they were up long before Maddux was playing, and they anticipated more championship falgs after the 1908, which led to many empty poles on the rooftop, that they later started using any reason to fill in the empty space so to speak.

Ryno and Grace had rooftop flags
I suspect Ryno’s rooftop flag was removed when his number was retired by the Cubs (8/28/2005) and he is now honored on the right-field foul pole. There is a picture on page 199 in the book “Wrigley FIeld: A Celebration of the Friendly Confines” (photos by Stephen Green, text by Mark Jacob) showing Grace’s “17” rooftop flag.
This book also has a picture on page 62 taken during the light installation in 1988 that shows a “Reds” flag flying atop the right-field rooftop.
My recollection of the first player honored along the right-field rooftop was Jackie Robinson when his number was retired in 1997. So I think that flying player’s names on the right field rooftop started sometime between 1988 and 1997.
I recall that Wayne Messmer had a flag above the pressbox after he was shot in the throat. I think this was around 1994 and may have preceded flying players along the right field rooftop.
Another interesting photo (unrelated to this topic) appears on page 36. It shows the bleachers under construction in 1937. The “Budweiser” building can be seen in the background, but the rooftop has an ad for “Ricketts”!

1997 sounds about right.
I also seem to remember the flags for all the players being put up around the time Jackie Robinsons number was retired. I remember being at the game where they announced all the player flags and their meanings. IIRC, there were flags for the championship years up there all along. I need to go back and check out old media guides to see what they say.
