Sunday Name That Cub

What a fashion plate! (Who wears a jacket under their jersey?) Once again, a $10 gift card from Distant Replays goes to the first person to name this Cub.

Nice sideburns, too.

DINGDINGDING!!

Winner.

Miller played for 10 different teams from 1957-74, in order: Cardinals, Mets, Dodgers, Twins, Indians, White Sox, Cubs, Padres, Pirates, Padres again, Tigers, Mets again.

It was in an era when the Cubs picked up and disposed of veterans seemingly in the blink of an eye. They got him from the White Sox on September 1, 1970. He pitched in 7 games in ’70 and 2 in ’71 before he was released on May 10, 1971. The photo was taken at spring training ’71.

Naturally, after the Cubs dumped him and the Padres traded him away, he wound up in the World Series with the 1971 Pirates.

No! Isn't this

Al Spangler??

Why have you not done old Al, yet?

My memory is fading with his memory, along with Phil Regan and Ted Abernathy…

- sigh -

I think Spangler was too well known to be part of this series.

Match the names with pictures

The guy on the left is Ted Abernathy.

The others… I’m not sure!

jacket under the jersey

This seemed to be a pretty common look back in the day. I think the theory was that the more layers of clothing they wore the easier it was to sweat off a few extra pounds. You see a modern version of this with the ‘trash bag’ shirts that alot of high school/college kids will wear. Don’t see it too much anymore in the majors.

Probably because ...

… the official undershirts and jerseys the teams have are far superior at doing that sort of thing.
