2009 BCB Project 3000 Fundraiser

Click on image to open a larger version in a new browser window
Last year, BCB reader Louis designed a cool shirt that a lot of you liked and bought. For every shirt that was purchased, $8 went to Project 3000, the foundation started by Derrek Lee to find a cure for Leber's Congenital Amaurosis, a progressive eye disease that his daughter Jada suffers from; if a cure's not found, she will eventually go blind.
I'm happy to report that thanks to you, we donated over $1000 to Project 3000 in 2008 from this shirt sale alone, and another $900 from the original shirt sale that we handled ourselves. Louis has designed a new shirt for this year, so you can buy another one -- or if you don't have one yet, you can get your first BCB shirt.
Once again this year, Strange Cargo, located a block south of Wrigley Field at 3448 N. Clark Street, is my partner in this project. You can go into the store and get one if you're in the area, or order online from their website; shipping is only $5.
Thanks to those of you who bought shirts in the past and I hope that if you haven't, or if you want another one, or want to get someone a shirt as a gift, know that part of your purchase goes to a very worthy cause. This post will be placed on the right sidebar for the rest of the year.

Is it a baseball-cuff shirt?
It is hard to tell, but it looks like the neck and arms are wrapped in a blue, like a baseball jersey shirt. Does that make sense?

No, it's a standard T-shirt, no cuffs, same as last year.

Al, please remind us how we can donate via PayPal to this cause
I want to donate as part of the BCB community.
As much as I’d love to add another T-shirt to my collection, my fiancée would shoot me since we just cleaned out our closets and gave a huge box of T-shirts to Goodwill.
At this point, I’d rather give the $$$ that I would spend on T-shirt and shipping directly to BCB Project 3000.
I figure every $10, $15, $20, $25, $50, or $100 or more will help.

I want to do this as part of the BCB community
I believe many of us would send a small PayPal payment to you and you can send one BIG check to Project 3000 on behalf of all of us BCB readers.
Do you have a BCB Project 3000 PayPal account?

Interesting idea.
Let me see what I can set up for that. In the meantime, if you want to make a donation and get a shirt (for those whose fiancees won’t be upset!), you can do so by ordering from Strange Cargo.

I'll probably buy a T-shirt anyway
I love seeing BCB shirts at Wrigley or other ballparks when the Cubs are on the road.
It’s a nice shirt.

Just a heads up....
wrigleyvillesports.com has Rich Hill and Felix Pie jerseys for sale. $50 for the authentic jerseys. If Rich Hill turns things around and somehow gets traded or signed back to the Cubs this could be a very good deal.

…I’d rather spend the extra 25 bucks on the Kerry Wood authentic. At least there’s some good history there.

i hate how much they
overprice those jerseys!
i paid 140 for my derosa jersey, and that was with a discount! i’d say 45 is a good price, but that’s less than a bleacher seat this year..

I bought a Cooperstown Sandberg for $60 and a Zambrano Alt Blue for $50. They have tags, all sewn on, authentic and official.

Thanks for the link.
I had not heard this. Good for Derrek and his family, and glad to hear he’s still involved with Project 3000, which is a worthy cause no matter who it affects.

Wow, who knew.
That’s good news – at least her vision will remain stable and, as Derrek mentions, her (mis)diagnosis has wound up helping many people.

Are these available now at Strange Cargo?
I’ll be in Chicago for business at the end of the month and wouldn’t mind swinging by to get one.

Yes, they will...
… either have them in stock at the store or they will make one for you on the spot.

Adding to the Collection
The wife just ordered my ‘09 BCB shirt yesterday. I’m getting something for Valentine’s day for a change!
As a semi-related story; last year for our honeymoon we went to Wrigely and caught 3 games. I convinced the wife we had to stop by Strange Cargo and get some Cubs gear. We got to talking to the guy who was running the store (can’t remember his name, wish I did though), mentioned we were there on our honeymoon, and he graciously offered us 3 free shirts. I mentioned we were really there to get last year’s BCB shirt for myself, so he let me have it as one of the free ones. I knew some of the proceeds were going to Project 3000 so I donated $20 and ending up walking out of there with 8 shirts in total.
BEST HONEYMOON EVER!

Cool story!
Glad you donated to the cause, and bought some shirts.
The name of the owner is Jay Schwartz. He’s a good dude and this arrangement has been great for the store, for the site, and for Project 3000.
