Jake Peavy Speaks!

Our fellow SBN'ers at Gaslamp Ball conducted a long interview with Jake Peavy; the link has both mp3's of the interview as well as some highlights. Among the highlights:

▝ "If I wanted to be on another team... then I think we could have pressed the issue." He signed last year's contract in order to play in San Diego and bring a World Championship to the city.

▝ Jake Peavy didn't want to talk to press because if he says one thing then it can be misconstrued.

▝ "The internet is such a helpful thing at times... there is so much stuff on the internet that's just false." Peavy's family reads the internet and he tells them "You guys know me and know what I would do and wouldn't do, you can't believe all that you read and that's with the utmost respect to the media but these BLOGS..." Peavy doesn't know how the "Go Cubs Go" song goes and he doesn't know why someone would say that he sang it.

Emphasis to that last sentence added by me.

I suppose, if someone does an interview with him, I'd post it.

Ah don't do it if

you don’t want. Just because I whine about wanting him leading off in Cubbie Blue doesn’t mean we need to start numerous B-Rob threads.

+1

Since he didn’t get traded (as we all know he wants/wanted), he is going to play the good little player who wants to help his team win a championship. He changed his tune based on the fact he didn’t get traded.

What else is he going to say?

-Get me the heck out of town!
-Help, my marketability is going to get trashed when this team scores 1.2 runs a game for me!
-There is nowhere else I’d rather be…except Chicago, or New York, or heck even Seattle.

His only chance to win a championship in San Diego...

… is if he suits up with the Chargers. Maybe he can play tight end?

Has someone checked the park effect on this interview?

I think it only sounded the way it did because it was at Gaslamp Ball. Take that same interview, put it on a different blog and it turns out he was saying, “You know me, what I’d do and what I wouldn’t do. I can’t sing alone. My harmony is all off. In reality, it was me and Brian singing ‘Go, Cubs, Go’ together. He’s the one who taught me the words.”

The author of this post is not a certified scout, doctor, agent, statistician, manager, or journalist, nor was he ever a very good player, though he tried very hard to be like Ryne Sandberg and was about as scrappy as it gets (in T-ball). Any opinion expressed above should in no way be confused with fact, truth, or reality and is hereby qualified in the following ways: 1) The author does not know as much about baseball as Lou Piniella. 2) The author does not know as much about baseball as Jim Hendry. 3) The author does not know as much about baseball as either Dusty or Darren Baker.

Where is San Diego Jazz Man now that we need him?

I wonder if he believes any of this….

I live there too

Peavy is a great guy. He never says the wrong thing. If you are looking for any info on this potential trade, you aren’t going to get it from him.

The trade to the Cubs was never a good fit. They need more than we could offer for a pitcher of his calibur. They will likely dump him to some desperate contender at the deadline.

"I want to be a World Champion and that's all that matters to me is winning"

Read the undertones of his messages…he practically came out and said that all he wants in life is to be on the Chicago Cubs. He’ll be here shortly….Book it.

Not necessarily "I want to be a world champion" equals "I want to play for the Cubs"

but an argument could be made that it means “I don’t want to play for the Padres.”

Really

in light of recent events, can you really believe any freaking athlete?
Go ahead Jake go pitch for the Padres, go 11-15 on a club that will lose 95 games on a good year.

"Have You heard of the Boom on Mizar 5?"

by Grockcubs on Feb 12, 2009 6:08 AM CST reply actions

What do you want Jake Peavy to say

Peavy has grown up in the San Diego organization and they pay him very many millions of dollars to pitch and be a good soldier. So you expect him to rip the Padres? And isn’t there just a wee bit of hypocrisy in Cub fans ripping the Padres? I mean, after all we are an organization who trademarked the phrase Luvable Loser while the Padres have actually had more playoff success since Ray Kroc founded the ballclub.

Maybe be honest for a change

Please let this be an end to Jake Peavy talk

Memo from Al to DGU….

Peavy is dead. So is Brian Roberts, Adam Dunn, Moe Green. Slacci. Cuneo. Today I settled all family business so don’t tell me that you’re innocent. Admit what you did in the rumor mongering.

The surest way to know that Jake Peavy will be a Cub...

…is for Phil Rogers to say it isn’t going to happen.

I saw on MLB Network last night...

…that Peavy also did an interview with a local San Diego radio station. They played a brief soundbite and he sounded just about as sick and tired of hearing about Jake Peavy as the rest of us.

So what you're saying

is it’s only a matter of time until MLBN starts referencing my posts?

“Good effort by the Cubs today despite the loss, though BCB reader ‘neverAcquiesce’ claimed it was ‘a crock of shit’ and ‘Piniella needs to pull his head out of his ass ASAP.’ Thoughts?”
