A Dunn National
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/baseball/mlb/02/11/dunn.nats/index.html
Nationals got him for a 2 year deal for $29 million.
Personally, I would have rather had him than Bradley. But that's my opinion.
I looked forward to seeing Bradley play 120 games and Dunn hitting another 40 HRs with a high on base percentage. My opinion once again.
Thanks Hendry. This has been a great...er, confusing winter for us Cubs fans.

Dunn is an all or nothing hitter, and a DH
He didn’t fit with the Cubs. Get over it. Milton Bradley is a distinctly more complete and potentially helpful ballplayer to the Cubs.

Yeah...

Yep, thats me...
…but I don’t apologize. Anybody who has a life isn’t going to see every single posting on here, or whatever board they spend their time at.

I made many a Dunn argument
But people made very convincing arguments for Bradley, so just keep your fingers crossed he stays healthy; he wont have Dunns counting stats at the end of the year, but his OPS and defense should be better than the Big Donkeys

Yeah.
Well, I wish Bradley the best. I mean, if he does good, he helps the team.
But he has proven that he can’t play OF in the NL. The question for him is not “will he get hurt,” but is “for how long will get hurt.” The Cubs already have a fragile Harden to sugar coat, now we have an everyday player with Bradley, a fragile CF in Fukudome… the Cubs are being built as a stout looking chair with fragile legs.
That isn’t going to win a World Series.

I was just kidding around...
…but I would remind everyone that this site has a search function. If a relatively major news story like this breaks, you’d be well advised to use the search function before spending any time writing a Fanpost. Odds are, a development like this is going to get posted and devoured pretty quickly.

Doesn't bug me.
I did take a glance around the screen and didn’t see any Dunn posts. So, I thought it was current news. I made a mistake. I can admit it. With news moving so fast on these chat boards, its hard to stay 100 percent involved unless you dedicate your life to it. I can’t. Got wife, kids, job, school, sometimes gotta poop, etc…
Just life. If i screw up. I screwed up. Sorry.

That or
they just have a keen eye and somewhat of an attention to detail. No need to insult those that pay attention to other posts on the blog and suggest that they do not have the things you mentioned ie; A Life, Wife, Kids, Job…etc.
But then again you probably didn’t mean it that way…and in my case I have no kids — I’ve decided to put that money towards Beer.

Chill out
I didn’t mean anything toward anybody. I just stated that when I crap, I’m not surfing the articles or posting on any discussion. You may be able to sit and read every single post. Either way, I don’t really care. I said I was sorry about reposting a known news item, and that’s it.
So, you and your keen eyes, or your attention to detail and go on both writing and wiping at the same time.
Have fun dude. :O)

Good for you!!
It’s a shame people waste so much time complaining when ONE topic gets covered twice. I understand Peavy and Roberts posts, but chill out folks — people shoild not have to fear posting here.

The problem, though, is...
… because this is such a busy site, if we get multiple posts on the same topic, it pushes other posts further down the list.
People can help this issue by recommending posts they think should stay longer — four rec’s puts them in the rec list, where posts can stay up for several days.
Thanks.

Point taken!
You’re the exception, Al. You tend to point out, in a polite manner, that a topic has been covered already. There are, however, certain individuals who complain too much about duplicate posts.
In all honesty, during my first 6 months or so here, I never noticed the fanshots section; and even now, I rarely look at them. Judging by the extremely low number of comments posted on fanshots, it seems that others miss them too.
I completely understand the problem with topics being pushed down the list by duplicates. For those who haven’t already, I recommend editing your settings to show a longer list of fanposts — another BCB feature that took me too long to find.

Thanks
I agree and understand the situation. I made an honest mistake. Look at my history if you feel like it… I haven’t done it before and i will TRY NOT to do it again.
If I screw up again though, and if anybody wants to take their frustration out on me, then go ahead. Enjoy it… write, curse, insult, away. Go ahead and rub some lotion at on yourself (i’m not speaking to you calicubfan, but everyone) and have some fun.
Whatever man. A simple way to resolve this is just have somebody over the boards to delete the repeat posts. Make ‘em a traffic cop. Just have them let the orginal poster know that they are repeating posts, be nice about it, and I’m sure this wouldn’t be nowhere near as big an issue.
by TheHawkRules on Feb 12, 2009 9:48 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
I usually do that....
… and then email the poster to let him/her know why.
This time I left it because there were already several comments by the time I saw it.
It’s really not that hard to scan the recent post lists — both of them, fanpost and fanshot — or search the site, to see if your topic is being covered. That’s all I ask.

Talk about a reluctant marriage
Adam Dunn had an offer of marriage from the Washington National months ago. But he hung on to the bitter end hoping a better situation for his services would materialize. It never did. I wonder how Washington’s fans are going to embrace a player who clearly didn’t want to go there? This said, I like Dunn. He’s a throwback player. I hope he hits 50 HRs a year for the Nats.

Yeah, I do too.
I grew up loving baseball from the 70’s and 80’s. Back then, a lot of the power guys hit home runs and that’s it. It seems more natural…
It also shows why Andre Dawson is so freakin’ awesome.

Considering the contract Dunn got
Bradley was a good move. The Nats overpaid – they were the only reported team with serious interest in Dunn, but maybe they had to for Dunn to sign, as Dunn was reportedly lukewarm about going there. Had Dunn got an Abreu level contract, then a debate on the merits of Dunn or Bradley, at the relative costs, would perhaps be more intriguing. If Bradley is healthy for this period, then 12 mil in 2011 is probably livable. If he’s not healthy, then you take the 2 mil buyout and they get equal contracts basically (2/20). Considering that I think Bradley is the better player to have, I’m fine with this (I didn’t really care for Dunn unless it was an unlikely scenario where he was lined up for first base).
For the Nats, though, outside of overpaying a bit (IMO), it is a good deal. He adds pop to the middle of the order. The lineup isn’t half bad, but their pitching is a mess. That said, let’s say Dunn does his usual. At midseason, some teams could come calling for that power bat in the middle of the lineup, and maybe Washington nets some critical assets.

So there's still a chance we can pick Dunn up around the trade deadline when DHL gets hurt?
As I've told you before, I never repeat myself.

a side comment
But I’ll be curious how Erik Bedard performs this year. If he’s healthy, and if SP is a need, I wouldn’t mind going after him, depending on the cost of course. That said, I’m fine with Heilman as the 5th guy.
by toonsterwu on Feb 12, 2009 3:58 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Heilman should remain in the pen
I think his numbers have shown he’s better in that role, as for Bedard, I dont see how the Mariners can expect to recoup that cost in terms of prospects-that trade never added up to me either, were they really just a pitcher away from competing?

I don't think they are
expecting to recoup the value they gave up, but rather, just to get a return for Bedard to help with the rebuilding.
by toonsterwu on Feb 12, 2009 6:11 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Well I still dont think we have the chips anyway
And no way you give up Vitters for someone like Bedard, especially after his horrible 08

by bren on Feb 12, 2009 6:24 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Well, it'll come down to how Bedard pitches
But I find it highly unlikely that, due to his contract, due to his injury history, that Bedard would net a gigantic return (thus, I think, unless all our prospects fall flat or Bedard has the greatest half-season ever, that there are other possibly ways to put a deal together).
That said, I’m not saying we should or will have to go after Bedard. Just to keep him in mind. As noted, I think I’m alright with Heilman as a 5th starter.
by toonsterwu on Feb 12, 2009 6:52 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Id take him, but the price the Ms paid
seems to suggest they’d want back more than what his 09 value might be, especially if he gets out to a hot start before July

The reason I don't think it matters is
because it’s two different regimes. Bavasi made the deal to get Bedard, Jack Zdurcinek (sp?) is in charge now.

Silver lining
At least we only have to face him at Wrigley three times a year now that he’s out of the division. I would have rather he signed in the AL as a DH, but at least he didn’t sign with Houston or St. Louis.
