Wow.

I can recall watching Oil Can pitch for the Sioux City Explorers back in 1994-95. He set a Northern League record in one game by throwing 10 shutout innings and striking out 14, but the Explorers lost in the 11th. Man, I can’t believe he’s still doing it. Good for him.

Boyd? Seriously?

He’s almost 50 years old. Geez.

why not

If he thinks he can pitch, why not find out..
After all major league baseball let Garth Brooks try out..
Hell, if Boyd can give you forty good innings a year, that is
more than we got out of a some of our middle relief men last year

Garth Brooks didn't "try out".

It was a publicity stunt, IIRC for charity.

Oil Can was a cult phenomenon in the 80's with the BoSox

A cult phenomenon who did little sustainable to deserve all the recognition he got back then. Good luck with the comeback. I hear Tijuana is looking for starting pitchers.

Does Soriano's defense at 2B really cost more runs than in LF? He makes a lot fewer errors in LF since misplays and mental mistakes aren't figured into the stats, but I have to imagine that his mistakes are more physical at 2B. Any thoughts? Is there a statistic on this?
