Advertising in Games... how sad. Apparently in the MLB 2K9 series of games, State Farm (among others) will be posting not-so-realistic advertising in game. This is what they did to Wrigley... what an abomination. See article here

Just so you know...
The top image is the game, the bottom one is real. Check out the article too, they have gone as far as to CHANGE the way stadiums look to incorporate the ads… Nationals Stadium now has a 20 foot wall in left field with a State Farm ad… this is why I’ll be buying ONLY the MLB “The Show” games, plus they’re just better.
They also put a much larger building on Waveland.
What IS that, anyway?

I have no idea
but it looks as ridiculous as the State Farm sign.

i think they did that because
they didnt want to have to make the buildings that are supposed to be behind that building in the background

They could have just left them out entirely.

Honestly...
This is what happens when fans of the subject matter of a video game aren’t involved in its development. I’m sure the guys who built this game could care less about sports in general… one of the main reasons I buy baseball games is for their realism… the 2K9 games were already consistently worse than the MLB series from Sony, so this is just another reason not to buy them.
So they alter all kinds of stuff but they ommit the Under Armour sign? Bunch of geeks.

I don't think Under Armour is advertising this year
is it?
"Prince Fielder Dies Of Inside-The-Park Homerun" - The Onion
what I meant was
WIMW….. the Statefarm logo in the backdrop is not real, so basically the video game has decided to add stuff that has never been there while stuff that actually has been there is not. It doesnt have to be UA, but they could have put any other company logo where the UA has been. Ahhh who cares. I likely won’t play this game either.

Well that might actually be right....
Before the 2007 season, Under Armour and the Cubs agreed to a deal that would have the company’s logos on both outfield doors.
Now, Under Armour is saying the Cubs terminated a three-year deal with them after the second year of the contract. So that is that: no more logos.
The Cubs, however, are saying Under Armour backed out of the original five-year, $10.8 million sponsorship contract, and they are suing Under Armour over it.

and they left out the Budweiser rooftop ad, replacing it with something with a MLB logo in the upper right.
I guess Busch, whoops, InBev isn’t one of the sponsors, either.

I do play these games and could care less
theyre trying to defray their production costs by selling ad space….par for the course
Okay, just so I understand it... in your wildest fantasy, you are in hell. And you are co-running a bed and breakfast with the devil.
In that case...
… maybe they should sell MORE ad space and give the games away for free.

Ad placement is the way of the world anymore....
….as long as it doesn’t affect gameplay, and it looks like it doesn’t, is it really a big deal?
I would think the Under Armour and Van Kamden(?) advertisements would be much more of a reason to get pissed at how advertising is affecting stadiums than whether State Farm created an imaginary wall IN A VIDEO GAME.

Van Kampen
But I think they did this because Wrigley really is the only outfield wall in the majors that DOESN’T have dedicated adspace due to the ivy. It’s just pathetic they had to do it that way. Plus there isn’t a jumbotron to use (which is what they did in all other parks in this game, including the massive HDTV board in Atlanta, which is now tiny because they used most of it for the ads). So the developers pretty much said “hmm, there’s a bunch of open space… we’ll just put it there, no one will care.” I bet they didn’t TOUCH Yankee Stadium or Fenway… god forbid they upset the “real” baseball fans. Look, I know this is really sort of moot, but it’s just kinda pathetic… what’s next, the scoreboard at Wrigley will play videos? I guess it’s just as bad as the fireworks and sirens that go off in all the other games when you hit a home run at Wrigley… ’cause you know, that happens in real life.
Well, Fenway already has it's share of Green Monster advertisers lately....

But I’m betting the developers did the same thing to each ballpark. I could be wrong though. When does the game come out?

Is it my imagination...
… or is the shortstop in that photo doing something peculiar?

fenway has ads
for sometime now. and they had ads on the wall way before it was the green monster.
i got bored a few weeks ago, and read the wikipedia pages on most of the older stadiums.

After a little research
Turns out that advertising at Wrigley goes back pretty far… we all remember the Torco sign… here’s a photo from 1935… man has that place changed!
That photo dates from the early 30's...
… before the current bleachers were built.
That Baby Ruth sign, though, survived until the early 1970’s.

wow, good find
Okay, just so I understand it... in your wildest fantasy, you are in hell. And you are co-running a bed and breakfast with the devil.
Not to beat the dead horse...
But here’s some video… and it appears as if that State Farm sign is at least 6 or 7 stories high and BEHIND the stadium… wow.
i don't care
the game looks like it’s going to be really fun. or, at least, more fun than ‘08 was. i’m fine with ignoring it.
heres a question
what does the miller lite ad say right now? those ones usually made me laugh. for the peoria chiefs game it said “no fighting boys” or something to that effect.

I'd have to go drive by the park and look.
My guess is that the sign from the Winter Classic is still up.

Wow
That actually seems a little insensitive given what happened with their pitcher who threw the ball at the fan last year… was that game before or after that incident? I live in Peoria, and I know the Chief’s are prone to occasional on-field silliness, but that just seems a little… too much.
