The three ring circus continues...

Ex-governor (and ex-pro wrestler) Jesse "The Body" Ventura wants Selig to be indicted just like Vince McMahon (CEO of WWE) was in 1993.

Ignoring the absurdity factor for a moment - not to mention the irony - at first blush, his reasoning makes a lot of sense.

Hang on kids, the fun is just beginning!!!

The article specifically states...

that Ventura admitted his steroid use back in the 90s.

The point Ventura was arguing was that the government went after the head of wrestling hard, yet they’re not doing the same with the head of baseball.

Selig is not my bud

But the logic Ventura uses is poor.

Selig may have turned a blind eye, but I doubt he was a dealer.

Agreed... there's a big difference...

the government was after McMahon for actively pushing steroids. Selig was just (at most) just complicit with steroid use. Legally, that’s a big difference.

as crazy as it may seem

Ventura does have a point.

No, he doesn't.

Think about it. Many of us post often about how clueless Bud is.

That’s not a good thing for a sports league commissioner to be. But it’s not indictable.

Bud Selig should be ousted from his role as Commissioner

The man is a lying sack of crap. He just needs to go away. I endorse Condeleeza Rice as next MLB Commissioner. She is a baseball afficionado and would bring some desperately needed credibility and integrity to baseball right now.

I didn't know that about Condi.

That would be, um, interesting.

I don't know if she's looking to be involved in sports

She turned down the Pac-10 Commissioner’s job. Though I guess she could be holding out for the Baseball Commissioner’s gig.

McMahon took an active role, Bud didn't

That is what I remember of that trial. Vince took steroids himself, and encouraged wrestlers to do the same. He facilitated them getting steroids. Bud chose to turn a blind eye. Not the same thing in a court of law.

by Nibbles on Feb 17, 2009 10:28 AM CST reply actions

Yeah, I think Ventura is making an imperfect comparison here.

Still, I’d like to see Bud out of office or, at the very least, I’d like to see his ridiculous salary drastically slashed.

he might not have supplied the players

but he also did not stop them from being supplied, and he is guilty by association and being the head honcho, he does need to take responsibility.

then again with all the surprises, who knows, he may have supplied some players at one time or another (doubtful, but with the crazy we have witnessed, who knows for sure anymore)

There is a big legal difference...

between pushing steroid use (and possibly supplying steroids) and not stopping steroid use. It may seem like the same thing in a practical sense, but in a legal sense it’s very different.

And I would be SHOCKED if Selig had any active involvement in the steroids. He’s dumb, but he’s not that dumb.

Now Bud comes out and says criticism of him is unwarranted

Somebody change his adult diaper and put him out of his misery. Seriously, he is an embarassment to the national pastime.
