Additions and Subtractions to 2009 team (help me)

I am a Sox fan writing a story for my newspaper. I would like to list 6 incoming, and outgoing players from the Cubs. There are more than 6 I believe, but the majors ones (ie. ones impacting the 09 team). Bradley, Miles, Gregg, come to mind for me. Marquis, Hill, Pie, Ceda (top prospect), from the other side of things.

Anyway, help would be much appreciated without having to search multiple sites.

Or, in fact, just give me all the notable players, I will use the top6 for profiles, and just list the other ones down below.

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of SB Nation or Al Yellon, managing editor (unless it's a FanPost posted by Al). FanPost opinions are valued expressions of opinion by passionate and knowledgeable baseball fans.

Aaron Heilman is an addition

Henry Blanco is a subtraction

Yep...

…and Cedeno and Olson (who never actually played for the Cubs) were subtractions in the Heilman deal.

I'm gonna say Heilman is a subtraction by addition...

Not necessarily

if he pitches like he did last year, then no doubt, you are right. But his previous 3 seasons were all really respectable, if he can get back to that form, then Heilman will be pretty solid

WHY ARE WE HELPING HIM???!!!!!!

Kidding. If you go to the new MLB Network’s website they might have something. On their bottom ticker on the channel they have who’s in and who’s out for teams. I’d imagine they’d have something on there.

Unlikely.

Fontenot is a plus defender who put up great numbers vs. RHP last season.

No doubt Fontenot is better

more power, more patient. + defender. PECOTA likes him much more too. Miles just had a career year and barely was league average, whereas Fontenot could very well put up an 800 OPS

No

Fonte was on pace for about 25 homers last year. It will likely go down if he plays everyday but I still think he could hit 20.

That's actually Paul Sullivan...

…but the point remains the same. These guys get paid money to come up with these pie-in-the-sky ideas that would get any of us flamed beyond recognition. Of course, they have the advantage of actually getting players to give them quotes on their insane ramblings.

I remember there was a post here...

… suggesting the Soriano-to-2B idea, which was quickly shot down by anyone reasonable here; we all know Soriano was a bad 2B when he was a regular there. Asking him to move back there almost 4 years after he last regularly played the position would be idiocy.

Not to mention the idea of signing Manny to a way-over-market contract. I don’t see teams falling all over themselves to sign him, and spring training has already begun.

It almost seems like...

…Sullivan was under orders from his editor to write a “Manny to the Cubs” story and that was what he came up with. If that’s the case, I’ll cut him some slack and say he did the best he could – at least he didn’t suggest the Cubs could trade Soriano.

Here's the point.

Political speech is not allowed on this site. Therefore, I removed your signature.

Let’s stop this discussion right now. If you want to make a political statement, make it somewhere else.

The guy wants a list of player additions and subtractions for the Cubs. He could have gone to mlb.com, espn.com, foxsports.com, cbssports.com, or I don’t know… maybe cubs.com??? Heck, he could have just stayed on his own team’s site and asked noted Cub expert DrCrawdad. ;-)

But no, he comes here and expects us to do his work for him. And then after we oblige, he calls us uptight. Well, it’s clear he has a future as a sportswriter in this town. Can’t wait…

I didn’t call you uptight after giving me help. I said “Thanks” after someone gave me help, and I only said you guys were uptight when I everyone was having a heart attack because I was somehow making a political statement by calling Obama white (in my signature nonetheless)….. THAT would be uptight. And calling me racist for it is absolutely ridiculous.

Fair enough - I hereby apologize for and retract the "we oblige, he calls us uptight" statement.

You’re right – there was no direct cause and effect connection with those two actions.

Now if you’re still in an explaining mood…

Can you satisfy my curiosity as to why you reached out to BCB for what appears to be a very simple piece of information that you could have easily obtained on your own in a few minutes from any one of several well-known sports sites? I understand why a newbie might have posted something like that here, but you’re obviously a baseball fan and I would assume reasonably familiar with the Internet.

And given your task at hand (writing an article for your newspaper), I would also assume that you’re familiar with the concept of doing research for whatever you’re writing on. Posting a question as you did here doesn’t strike me as “doing research”, at least not at the journalist/writer level. It just struck me as an odd disconnect.

Ok

I asked it here because for the format I am writing, I only have room for the top 6 players coming and going. I know the Cubs were very busy in this offseason and had at least 8-9 it seemed going each way. I know Cubs fans know more about the worth of their leaving player than I would, and a spreadsheet of names would not tell me if they are valuled to a Cubs fan, but hearing a list of the best would.

And now it is not. There is no way anyone can read that and someone find a political connotation in it.

And deleting my sig. is bullshit unless SBNation can change it to allow site to site basis. My other, many sites do no have these “political” rules that apply here.

But my only issue now is that when he deletes my sig., it deletes it from all the SBNation sites I post on, and that needs to be changed by SBNation, honestly. Either that or he just doesn’t delete my sig. again. It’s not like I am a regular member here, or ever will be. I doubt if I even have any other fanposts our comments outside of this one.

Some SBN sites don’t ban political speech. This one does. However, he’s right that if I delete a signature, that becomes SBN-wide, since everyone has one user name for all the SBN sites.

Let me try...to be your research department

Starting lineup:

In the OF gone is Edmunds new is Milton Bradley (he will probably move up to the 3rd or 4th spot in the lineup)

IF gone is DeRosa, new is Aaron Miles probably a platoon middle infielder

Bench

back up catcher, gone is Henry Blanco and new is either Bako or Koyie Hill

5th OF’er gone Felix Pie, new is Joey Gathright

4th IF gone Ronnie Cedeno, no replacement

PH deluxe gone Darrel Ward, no replacement

Starting Pitching

gone is Jason Marquis new is possibly Aaron Heilman but also could be system upgrades by Marshall or Samardzija

Relief pitching

gone is closer Kerry Wood new is Kevin Gregg but he will probably be the 8th inning set up.

Gone is Bobby Howry new is Luis Vizcaino as middle relief
