This is amazing. Got a 3M raise for doing what? Says it in article, but only 3 players made more that Bud last year. Staggering.

Someone in the comments makes an interesting point that small market teams shouldn't complain about player salaries if they are willing to pay the Cryptkeeper this much to be the Commish. Another find it interesting that he makes only $M less than the marlin's roster and that only the yankees can afford the players who make more than Bud does.

Long Term Deal?

I heard Selig is wanting a long term commitment from MLB and is seeking a 6 year-160 million contract. Last heard, he was speaking with the Yankees about this deal…

talk about a worthless sack

of shit, there’s one. And he supports brilliant ideas such as rewarding WS home field advantage to the team represented by the league winning an exhibition game.

And he thinks the MLB drug policy works…

While some of Selig's decisions are not defendable...

… like the ones you mention, and others, there is no doubt that under his commissionership, the owners have made metric buttloads of money. Thus, they reward him.

I’m not saying I agree with this, but that’s the reason.

The profanity, I could do without.

and Bud Selig, I could do without

I wonder what happened first – his $3M raise or his little speech to the owners about tough times and everyone needs to cut back…

Can you please define

a metric buttload please?

I agree, he got the owners caaaaash and that is king.

But he stuck his head in the sand for YEARS on the steroid issue, then pretended to do something about it. For that issue alone, he is a poor commish. Because a good part of the reason the owners did make this caaaaaash is because of gate increases due to the long ball. Or have we all forgotten about how the summer of 1998 helped many of us PO’d fans come back to the games.

If he owned up to the issue and put forth a consolidated effort to fix things much sooner, then fine. But he danced around it, acted like a total politician and caved to the “mighty” union.

Oh, I'm not disagreeing with any of what you say.

All I’m saying is that the owners are very pleased with all they $ they have made under Bud’s rule, which is why they like him. Not saying I agree with that, only that it’s a fact.

Maybe Obama should fix this (wink-wink, nudge-nudge)

You know, like imposing a cap on Wall Street salaries and bonuses.
I never quite understood how the government is involved in baseball. But if the owners are who pay his salary, well, good for him.

One day I hope to come up with something worthy of this space.
