Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

Orlando Hudson

He would have been a great pick up for the Cubs.  Getting rid of DeRosa was the worst move Hendry has made in a while.  He was versatile, had decent numbers, and was a phenominal team leader.  Hudson is only being paid 3.4 million a year plus incentives.  He is worth way more than that and he would have filled a partially open spot on the Cubs.  Whats up with this?  Can someone explain this to me?

Tell me

what exactly is a good topic for a fanpost? It seems like everyone complains about every one, including you.

by tizzle on Feb 21, 2009 10:57 PM CST up reply actions   1 recs

My guess...

1. A topic that is not already being discussed in another FanPost, or several recent FanPosts.

2. A post that is more than a couple sentences.

3. A constructive post that offers some insight into some topic.

I’m not one for FanPost policing, but this one failed on all 3.

Exactly.

There was a Hudson post clearly visible on the recent post list — this one could have gone as a comment under that one.

The point is to try to consolidate discussion on a topic — in this case Hudson — and keep as many DIFFERENT topics visible on the recent post list as possible.

Only acceptable FanPosts:

2 – Brian Roberts

Thanks...

And for what it’s worth, I’m with you. I think the real question out of all this is how well DeWitt would fit in here, and whether this deal makes him available in a trade.

Aaron Miles

ugh, what an uninspiring signing

Okay, just so I understand it... in your wildest fantasy, you are in hell. And you are co-running a bed and breakfast with the devil.

A couple of points

1) Hudson is a switch hitter which is actually better than a left handed bat.
2) Hudson is definitely worth the 5-6 million dollars that he can earn this season.

But the overall idea of you’re post is right. The upgrade from Fontenot is not worth 6 million buck, and the Cubs need a legimite utility infielder (not Miles) who can play second and third.

Just wondering

Is Hudson completely recovered from last season’s wrist injury which ended his season in August? I figure you’d know since you seem convinced he is worth a $5-$6 Mil and maybe more deal.

by rlpete on Feb 22, 2009 8:19 AM CST up reply actions

He is

There is no denying that. His injury is supposedly healed, but like a lot of major leaguers, see Troy Glaus, you don’t always know.

Even if he further regresses he will still be worth the contract that the Dodgers signed him..

Sorry...

Sorry I don’t sit on the website 24 hours a day and I don’t read every single fan post. MY BAD

It really isn't a big deal...

and you don’t need to worry about it or be defensive. I can’t speak for everyone, but minor tidbits and overdone topics posing as FanPosts knock insightful posts and continually discussed posts off the list. It really isn’t a big concern, but it is nice to keep the list full of relevant topics and good discussions.

This was a short little blurb that could easily have been posted on another FanPost thread or even Front Page thread, where it still could have been read and discussed.

Anyway, no worries…

One way...

… to keep the insightful, important and more discussed posts on the list, is to give them recommendations. It only takes 4 recs to get a FanPost on the recommended list (3 recs for a FanShot) and that will keep them on the recommended list longer.

If you think a post is worthy of discussion for more than a couple of days, recommend it.

nobody

is asking that u sit on the website 24 hours a day. I think all that everyone ask, is that you spend 30 seconds looking at the recent topics before posting.

I dont care who the new owner is as long as he/she/them come equipped with a Jake Peavy and a Joe Beimel!!!
