Prime 9 Players Not in HOF (MLB Network)

The MLB Network has a series called Prime 9. They have many topics like Prime 9 shortstops or All-Star moments where they have experts lists their top 9 in that category.

I watched the Prime 9 Players Not in Hall of Fame. I was just able to catch the tail end of it but saw that they had Mark McGwire at #2 and #10 at #1. If you don't know who #10 is look him up on Al's top 100 Cubs of all time and don't look too far from the best Cub of all time.

They had some ex players give testamonies on Ronny and hearing what his peers had to say about him really gives you chills. It is still beyond me why he is not in there and I for one won't go to Cooperstown until he is (I know that they won't care but it won't feel right to me). What was more astonishing to me was that there are only 10 third basemen in there as of now.

For those of you who do not have this channel I highly recommend finding out how to get it. If you've been reading BCB in the past 3 months you read nothing but good reviews about it and they are all deserving. For those of you that do have it you know what I'm talking about.

MLB Network is a great surprise.

I just got it last weekend when I got digital cable for the first time, and the programming is very impressive for a channel with little news information to report about at this time

mlbchannel

should have been started years ago—-damn good watch daily!

I dont care who the new owner is as long as he/she/them come equipped with a Jake Peavy and a Joe Beimel!!!

Don't deprive yourself

from going to Cooperstown because Santo isn’t in it. It’s a shame but it’s worth a trip if you can make it there regardless.

And MLB Network is great…I had my doubts considering they have some really bad editors working for them but their specials have been great. I’m still anxious to see if they can handle the pressure during the regular season. Spring training will be a good test.

MLB NETWORK IS A GREAT WATCH

they’ve got a nice blend of regulars giving their thoughts and they have alot of time to go into great detail about different topics.I will miss Dan Plesac on Cubs broadcasts, but he’s really good on MLB NET, and we probably see more of him now. Plus he will have more Cub thoughts and maybe get the conversation away from tne east coast garbage we’re so used to hearing.

Though I really enjoy the channel

I was a little disappointed tonight. They changed the title of their program “Hot Stove” (their nightly baseball news program) to “MLB Tonight”. Its just too similar to “Baseball Tonight” on ESPN.

Other than that, its a great network, and I know, its basically just a nitpicking thing on my part.

of spring training games starting this week. Hot Stove was only intended to last during the offseason.

No, I understand why they did it

I just don’t like the name of it.

YOU'RE RIGHT

I just noticed that, too. I’m glad they didn’t change the format, though. Just remember, nitpicking is a skill. Keep up the good work.

Andre Dawson is #6.

Only name listedthat shouldn’t have been was Mark McGwire.

Hernandez Shouldn't Be On List of Nine

I believe I would have rather seen Tim Raines or Dale Murphy on MLB Network’s list of the nine. I’m glad you’ve got Raines and Murphy on your list. Hernandez was the best defensive first baseman I can remember. He was a good hitter. He simply didn’t put together enough good seasons in the big leagues to merit serious HOF consideration. He “only” had 2182 hits. He had some power but not a lot of power.

If he hadn’t fallen off in his mid-30’s so much, then I would say he would deserve more consideration. Murphy also fell off production wise in his mid-30’s, but Murphy won 2 MVP’s. Hernandez only shared a MVP with Willie Stargell in 1979. Hernandez was a very good player but not a great player.

It amazes me

that so few if any mention Raines or Murphy when talking about those snubbed from the HOF.

Rose at 4? -- weird

I love the fact the Santo is #1. although obviously rather have him just be in HOF and get him off the list for good. However, I find it curious to Rose at #4. To me he’s either top of the list or doesn’t belong on the list at all (and there have been numerous defenses of both positions), but at #4 it is a weird compromise.

There's no way Pete Rose SHOULDNT be on the list...

…he’s the hits king for pete’s sake. He is certainly HOF worthy, maybe should be #1.

by Cubs and Hawks fan on Feb 25, 2009 9:55 AM CST reply actions   0 recs

Duh?

Yeah, 4256 hits should count for something. He should definitely, not maybe, be #1.
