Two Hundred Games To Go: Cubs vs. Brewers at Mesa, Thursday 2/26, 2:05 CT

Yes, that's right: exactly 200 games from today, we will hopefully be seeing the Cubs off into another postseason appearance (38 remaining ST games, 162 regular season games).

Today, it's the first of many matchups between the division rival Brewers and Cubs (though, it's the only ST game between the two teams in Mesa this year). Yovani Gallardo takes the mound for Milwaukee, facing the Cubs for the first time since he suffered a serious knee injury in this game last May 1 at Wrigley Field. He'll be facing Sean Marshall, who's currently Lou Piniella's favorite for the fifth spot in the starting rotation. At this writing it's not clear which other pitchers will go for either team.

The game will once again be on WGN radio. If you are in southern Wisconsin, it's also on WTMJ, the Brewers flagship station, and speaking of Brewers radio broadcasters, here's a nice piece on Cory Provus, who just left WGN to join Bob Uecker on the Brewers' radio team.

If you're unable to get to any radio broadcast, here's MLB.com's Gameday, though a reminder: during spring training games, Gameday is missing some of its regular season features and is often behind. But, if you're outside radio contact, it's better than nothing.

Yesterday's overflow game thread worked well, so I'll do that again today -- post an overflow thread at 3:30 pm CST. Click on the "Game Threads" link on this post, or on the "Game Threads" section on the left sidebar, to find it.

Discuss amongst yourselves.

samardzija yesterday,

marshall today. heilman tomorrow? the pitch-off for the 5th spot is adding quite a bit of spice to early ST. all three, i am sure, are highly motivated. martian’s left-handedness has given him the pole position, at least for now….

the extra long ST & WBC

will give lou a chance to get a good ,long look at his candidates for the 5 spot. all three above would do quite well, i am sure, given the chance.

in the end, after a full & fair competition lou will find the right man for the job. heilman has been through this before when he was on the mets…

Speaking of the Brewers

anyone sign up on their website for “Early Access” to buy tix today? This is for their “Marquee” games such as those vs the Cubs and Sox. Prices about as high as Wrigley, some sections even more expensive.

Something tells me tickets won’t be as hard to get later on this year (as opposed to last year).

Very Odd pre-game post
They say a tie is like kissing your sister. Hopefully all the Brewers have sisters that look like Brett Lawrie’s sister Danielle.

At any rate, the Brewers will try to do better today in their first road game of the spring, traveling to Mesa to take on the Cubs. It’s Yovani Gallardo (NR) against Sean Marshall (NR) today at 2:05.

I think it goes without saying that this game, the first 2009 meeting between the Brewers and Cubs, is a must win.

Who writes about kissing their sister?
