Marmol will pitch in the WBC
I guess Carlos Marmol changed his mind and will actually be pitching for the Dominican Republic.
From cubs.com...
Carlos Marmol has changed his mind and will pitch for the Dominican Republic in the World Baseball Classic.
The Dominican team has yet to make a formal announcement, but Marmol said Saturday he will participate in the event.
"I think it's a good idea," Marmol said. "It's good to represent your country, to get a chance to do that."

Ugh. I just wish he would make up his mind and then be done with it.

Work, work, work
In the past year Marmol has been pitching full time. Between the season with the Cubs, pitching in the Dominican Winter League, and now the World Baseball Classic, i just hope Marmol can avoid injuries. I’m worried about our bullpen as it is, taking out Marmol would scare me to death.

Relax. At least..
..he’s guaranteed to face quality hitters in closing situations this way.
I rather him be at the WBC. He doesn’t NEED to be at camp for the sake of team camaraderie. He’s been here for 3 years. He knows most everyone.
Try to look at this as a positive.

It will keep
him away from Cubs training camp where Kevin Gregg has apparently been sharing an apartment with his buddy Jeff Gillooly.

That's bad

Rec'd
As a closer — or potential closer — what’s he going to do, maybe pitch 5 or 6 innings in this tournament? That’s the same workload he’d get at camp, and as pointed out above, at least he’d be in closer situations, rather than pitching in the fifth inning of ST games just to face major league hitters.
I’m fine with this.

Hmm...
Pitch for your country and get quality innings in games with playoff intensity, or pitch the exact same innings facing a handful of scrubs. Easy choice.
I may not want Cub players to play in the WBC, but I certainly won’t be upset about it. Be pissed at the WBC being played in March, be pissed at Selig, be pissed the WBC exists at all, but one can’t hold it over a player’s head for opting to represent their country in global competition.

Agreed.
The WBC is a reality that baseball fans must accept. And many players have very strong ties to the countries of origin. Go get ‘em, Carlos – uh, except when you’re facing Team USA (let’s hope those games are blowouts).
My sig line is out for jury duty.

At today's game
Carlos was signing autographs and someone told him they were glad he wasn’t pitching in the WBC. Marmol responded with “Don’t believe everything you read in the papers” and “Dominican Republic #1” Maybe the earlier reports of him not pitching weren’t even correct???

Don't blame Carlos
Send your cards and letters to that asshat Bud Selig. He who has given us the silliness of the wild card, the laughable All-Star game and talks out of both sides of his mouth on the PED issue, now presents the incredibly short-sighted WBC. Here’s a hint, if you want to find him, he won’t be spending his annual salary at extravagent restaurants. Rather, he’ll be eating hot dogs at a Gilles frozen custard in Milwaukee. I wish that fool was still selling used cars and as far away from MLB as humanly possible.
Who needs a stinkin' tag line? What are they for anyway?

i like the wild card
i don’t like the fact there aren’t the same number of teams in each division

eh, well can you really call the Pirates a team?

yup.
the whole move a team into the national league thing still doesn’t make sense to me. 15 teams a league, that makes sense.

the argument as been beaten to death mutiple times
but you can’t have that unless you have either 2 team with a bye three days or two teams always playing interleague games, which would make it very similar to the NFL

Marmol (Yes) Fuko (No)
Maybe someone out there can enlighten me, I can’t understand how Fukodome can even participate in the WBC when his main Focus this Spring should be Working with Gerald Perry and Lou on Restructuring his Hitting Style.

I am of the opinion...
that Kosuke may be better served by spending some time with the Japanese coaches and players. Working with the Cubs staff didn’t seem to do him much good last year, did it?
Lout doesn’t like Kosuke, and the more time he’s away from him the better for Fukudome, I think.

he's not liked?
he started enough in the playoffs. seems lou likes him fine.
