I know the question has been brought up repeatedly, "Why not Sheets to round out the rotation?" Well...

"Finally, an answer to one of this winter's most puzzling questions: Why is the National League's All-Star Game starting pitcher still looking for a job?

"...Sheets may need surgery to repair the torn flexor tendon in his elbow" Follow the link for the full article. The Brewers may also be on the tab for the surgery

I would have no interest in Sheets

A great pitcher, no doubt, when healthy. And that’s the catch. Signing him for the kind of cash he will ask for is just too risky. It looked for a while there like Texas was going to sign him, and at least thus far, they haven’t. That has nothing to do with his talent level. Teams are passing when they get all of his health infomation.

Agreed...

I would have no interest (even prior to this announcement), but I know other had suggested it. Maybe if we don’t have Harden, you explore the possibility, but you cant’ have both in the same rotation.

Interestingly, the report mentions that there was 2-year deal in place with the Rangers, pending only the physical.

Yeah, seems to me...

…this is one of the rare occasions when a physical really did turn something up.

Well jeepers, now there's a shocker

And people scratch their heads and wonder why in the first week of February 30 major league teams have taken a pass on Ben Sheets to this point. When Sheets didn’t sign relatively soon after CC Sabathia and AJ Burnett, then it was screaming signal that the medical reports on him weren’t right.

Yeah, nothing surprising here.

But it’s still sad to see a great pitcher go down. And Sheets would’ve been a lot less scary in the AL West. I guess he could end up there still. Kinda funny, though, if I’m reading the article correctly, it appears that the Brewers could wind up paying for Sheets to rehab with the Rangers. Oh, that’s rich.

I like Ben Sheets and wish him well

He is nothing like Mark Prior. Sheets is a competitor and tries like hell to be out there on the mound. Hopefully the doctors can get this latest problem cleaned up and he can be on the road to recovery…with a team in the AL.

The only news that surprised me

was that he had a tentative two year offer from the Rangers, which never was completed because of a failed phsical.

Too bad he didn't accept the Brewer's arbitration!

Erm, well if we are going to call Milton Bradley nicknames, mine is Fischer Price: yes, you heard it here first..

Why in the world did he wait this long...

if he knew he probably needed surgery. Isn’t that something you look into and deal with as soon as the post-season is over?

maybe he was ok

and got a cold, like Prior did a few seasons ago, a cold which he never returned to the Cubs from

The report mentions...

…that the Brewers had their doctors check him out prior to offering arbitration — and that at that time they thought he was healthy.

Though, from the sounds of it, the injury happened near the end of the season.
