Wood's 20K game to air on MLB Network
It'll be a bit strange to watch now that he's no longer with the team, but amazing nonetheless

Best-pitched game I've ever seen.
I’ve probably watched the DVD of that five times in the last couple years. Better than Z’s no-hitter IMHO.

Actually, I think it was, too.
Z’s was close, but Wood’s was the most dominating pitching performance in Cub history. I’d say only Sandy Koufax’s perfect game tops it in ML history.

Actually, it was....
According to Wikipedia (since I can’t find a list anywhere else) and a query I ran on Baseball reference, Wood’s “game score” was a 105, the highest by a pitcher in a 9 inning game. I’ll be watching that game again w/ great joy….
seeing as i'm not that big of a stat guy....
i must ask what a game score is, and why i have never heard of it.

A good explanation for game score...

Whose call will it have?
Harry and Stone, perhaps?
One day I hope to come up with something worthy of this space.
Probably Chip Caray and Stone.
That’s who called it for WGN originally. Harry died before the 1998 season.

Brain fart
I really do apologize for this. I remember watching the game live too…
One day I hope to come up with something worthy of this space.
Watching it right now
And I cant believe how long that grass is..ha
Okay, just so I understand it... in your wildest fantasy, you are in hell. And you are co-running a bed and breakfast with the devil.
Sick
to see how “bad” our starting line up
Blausser
Orie
Brown
Alexander
WOW.
And if you really want to scratch your head look at the entire team roster for the season, and you will ask the same question I do “How did Rigglemen get that team into the post season?”

Here's your answer.
Kerry Wood, Sammy Sosa and Rod Beck.

Here's one thing I noticed that's far different now.
A number of balls that went in the dirt were left in play. That would never happen today, especially on a wet, rainy day like that day was.

Watched This
Apart from a fairly helpful wide strike zone, this was a masterful performance. A lot of those “snappy” sliders in the zone reminded me of Marmol. I hadn’t seen this game when it originally happened, so it was real treat to catch it now.
…and some of us are not huge fans of our current lead off hitter, but at least it isn’t Brant Brown!
Did any of you actually get to attend this game? Wrigley appeared to be about half empty that day.
More than half empty.
Attendance was 15,758. As they said, there was rain threatening (and it did rain for a couple of innings). This was before the Sosa/McGwire HR race (and the playoff chase) had brought people back to the park that year.
I was there. It was truly special, probably the best pitching performance I will ever see. (Z’s no-hitter comes close.)
