Could it be?

Lee Meyers and Mamie Van Doren?

Who needs a stinkin' tag line? What are they for anyway?

by krummy12 on Feb 6, 2009 8:19 AM CST reply actions   1 recs

DINGDINGDING!!!

Winner.

Lee Meyers was a Cub minor leaguer when he married Mamie Van Doren, a sort-of actress and sex symbol, on May 4, 1966, after she broke up with Angels pitcher Bo Belinsky.

They were divorced on January 3, 1969. Here is Meyers’ playing record. He never really came close to making the major leagues.

He supposedly had inherited $2 million from his grandfather, the publisher of McCall’s magazine, but his father denied that. On April 27, 1972, Lee Meyers died in a car accident in Huntington Beach, California.

Mamie Van Doren turns 78 years old today.

Meyers was 19 when he married the 33-year-old Van Doren

She was married 5 times. Meyers being husband #3.

She also dated Howard Hughes, who supposedly discovered her and cast her in some of his movies for RKO.

According to...

her Wikipedia page, she was born Joan Lucille Olander and named “Mamie” after President Eisenhower’s wife.

Among men she was purported to be involved with were Clark Gable, Howard Hughes, Johnny Carson, Elvis Presley, Burt Reynolds, Jack Dempsey, Steve McQueen, Johnny Rivers, Robert Evans, Eddie Fisher, Warren Beatty, Tony Curtis, Steve Cochran, and Joe Namath.

That was close. Still it was a modest gag (as in choke). Thanks, Al.

now that I looked at her Wikipedia page, I think

Joan Rivers might be attracted to Mamie in her current state (that picture of her marketing the whine, err…wine) is a bit rough.
