Around SBN: Knicks Beat Lakers With Familiar Strategy

As a local, I want this ballpark village to happen so that the game day experience is better but as a Cubs fan I love that this patch of earth has turned into a punchline.

Softball Field?

Well, that’s better than what they’ve got now. The economy has certainly put a damper on development.

Unforutnately

We own a condo three blocks from Busch Stadium that we purchased because I commuted from Chicago to St. Louis for several years. In the Marquette Building, which is a beautiful completely restored building. Unfortunately, the real estate market being what it is and downtown St. Louis revitilization plans put on hold we can unload the joint. Very nice condo that we will likely take a big bath on.

Eventually the market will come back.

"Lake DeWittt"

I love it.

I remember reading something a while back about the Cardinals having to pay fines for work that is not completed by certain deadlines. I wonder if that’s still the case.

we can laugh all we want

but it is sad IMO. this is not just about the Cards, but there are lost jobs without the restaurants, etc being built and/or open. It is a prime example of the crap hole we are in economically.

Ballpark Village was a disaster long before the economy went down the crapper

They have been having problems with this pretty much since they announced it would happen.

Ballpark Village is a mess

Politics have played a big role in the dilemma of getting the project off the ground. So too has the perceived incomptence of the DeWitt family. When the recession hit that was all that was needed to torpedo the project completely. As mentioned above, we own a condo in downtown St. Louis that we are trying to sell given that I no longer commute from Chicago to St. Louis for work. I’ve been told by some respected real estate people in St. Louis that Ballpark Village may never get off the ground in its current format.

St. Louis is an armpit of America. I say that from direct knowledge. The outlying areas and suburbs are nice, but downtown St. Louis rivals Gary Indiana for being a shithole. Too bad I own property in that shithole.

ok...

i was not aware of that, thanks for the insight.

The project sounds pretty cool on paper...

…but it stinks in reality. All the high-rise housing, businesses, and a bowling hall of fame? Aside from baseball fans, who in their right-mind would want to live across the street from a 45,000 seat stadium that brings with it traffic jams, noise, etc. 81 days a year? It will probably wind up being a massive parking structure with a few bars and shops here and there.

That's what the White Sox should do, too.

If the Sox took the parking lot immediately north of the field and created a “Sox Town” with a few team-owned bars and restaurants, a sox gift shop, and parking ramps upstairs, they’d do fantastic business 80 days/year, and maybe even do “not horrible” business during the rest of the summer.
