A Few Odds and Ends

This might be better suited for multiple fan shots but I figured compiling them here would qualify it for a legit FanPost. Al, if you think this is in the wrong place, I'll gladly delete the post and move it

First off, Curt Schiling is officially retiring. This shoots down the possibility of adding him to the rotation without a trade. Schilling had expressed interest in coming to the Cubs or the Rays earlier this off season. He missed all of last year after surgery. A link to his personal website announcing the retirement can be found not here as his website is not working. Here's a link from CBC of all places. I would have really liked to see Schilling in Cubbie blue. He's a very extroverted person, for those who follow baseball know, but he's someone who loves the game and is looking out for it. I think he and Lou would have gotten along well.

Secondly, former Cubbie and a man not enjoyed by a majority of this site, Rich Hill will not be ready for the regular season. Along with Kerry Wood and Mark Prior, he is added to the list of former Cubs potential greats with large injury histories. Hill's past can be described as a little more than just physical ailments, but nonetheless, the deal (IIRC for a PTBNL) looks better for the cubs. Here's a link.

Finally, for those (myself included) are interested in acquiring Maicer Izturis from the Angels, another option has become available. I'm not saying I would prefer one over the other but Keppinger is another option. It seems that like Izturis, Keppinger is battling for a spot and is not in the lead, according to the article. He might be a Dusty castoff (which says a lot) but he can play several positions, including third base. His primary position is short stop, but it seems like he could handle the hot corner if needed.
