Today's second straight game at Mesa features Sean Marshall, current frontrunner for the #5 rotation spot, against Sean Gallagher, who was sent to the A's in the Rich Harden deal last summer. Gallagher wound up on the DL at the end of 2008, but is apparently healthy again and challenging for a spot in Oakland's rotation.
Also of interest today, 2008's #1 Cub draft pick Andrew Cashner should throw an inning for the Cubs. Meanwhile, Milton Bradley still won't be in the lineup, but will likely return tomorrow to DH. Gordon Wittenmyer's article doesn't clarify whether that will be in the day game against the Indians at Goodyear, or whether Milton will be in the squad traveling to Vegas to play the White Sox.
Lou Piniella's pissed at Steve Phillips. Wonder who's going to win that one?
"I don't have much respect for Steve Phillips," Piniella said after hearing the comment Monday. "Let him be around a little more and see what transpires before he makes assumptions. I've lost total respect for this guy. If he had something to say, let him say it to me."
This is about comments Phillips made about Kosuke Fukudome.
And, it looks like former Cub Nomar Garciaparra is about to sign a one-year deal with the A's, probably not in time for him to play in today's game. The Cubs do have two more spring games vs. Oakland, on March 23 and April 1 at the A's park in Phoenix, so perhaps we'll see him then.
MLB Audio returns today -- with MLB.com announcers; I'm not sure exactly who they are going to be. Here's today's MLB.com Mediacenter link. If you don't have audio, you can follow at MLB.com Gameday. I'll have an overflow thread up at 3:30 CST.
Discuss amongst yourselves.
