MLB iPhone app now available
I had last seasons, and it was great. This season includes MLB Audio included. not sure if it also lets you get the audio on your computer (doubtful), but you can stream either teams announcers for every game, so that's a plus.

Well...I bought it.
I bet the audio isn’t going to work until the regular season starts, however. No way to test it until then.

yeah
but he was saying if he pays for the iphone app, would he be able to use the gameday audio as well?
answer is no. you get the audio on the iphone, but not through anything else.

No blackout restrictions on the audio
That alone is enough to pay the $10 for the app
Do you need to be on a 3G...
…network to the audio? I’m thinking about getting it so I can listen to Pat and Ron while sitting in the stands.
"Pounding sand since 1982...."
Curious as well
I was curious if wifi is required in order to access the audio? I bought the app anyway and am stoked to see what it offers.
wrigley does not
have a usable wifi signal for fans. no.

Um...
… if you’re sitting in the stands in Chicago, you can listen to Pat & Ron already, on this amazing little device called a “radio”.
"That's my opinion and if you don't like it, well, I have others." ~ Groucho Marx
The radio is better
If you have the option, the radio is better – the MLB signal is delayed quite a bit, which is kind of disorienting.

yes, but when not in chicago
or an area where the wgn signal doesn’t reach, this will be nice to have.
but if i was at the game, i’d be watching, not needing to listen. only time you need to look things up then is the other team isn’t wearing names on the back of the jerseys. have to heckle the outfield somehow.

All teams wear names on the back of their road jerseys...
… except the Yankees.
The only teams that don’t wear names on their home jerseys are the Yankees, Red Sox and Giants.
Oh, and there’s this thing called a “scorecard” where they sometimes have information about what numbers players wear.
"That's my opinion and if you don't like it, well, I have others." ~ Groucho Marx
Of course,
you’re presuming that the information in the scorecard is correct, which you and I both know is not always the case.

i thought
that the rockies didn’t have names on their alternates. i could be wrong, but hey, i’ve been wrong before. was actually just trying to think of a reason it would be helpful.

The Rockies do have names on their alt jerseys.
You’re talking about those goofy looking black sleeveless things, right?

Streaming works over Edge
so it will work over 3G as well. Edge does not stream very well though, I don’t know about 3G.
3G is much better than Edge
I use 3G for applications like Pandora while I’m at work, and the streaming quality is excellent. If you’re sitting in the bleachers at Wrigley, my guess is you’ll be getting 3G (I’ve found very few spots in the city that are dead zones for 3G, and the ones I find seem to be limited to about one block).
"You know, you should be a lot more careful crossing the street like that, otherwise you could die - if that bothers you."
Techincally you'll be getting 3G in the bleachers,
but it’s very slow. Take a look around and you’ll see 50 other people on iPhones. The 3G slows to a crawl.

I wonder what Bartman was listening to.
Was it Pat and Ron or was it his MP3? (Did they have iPods in 2003?)
yes.
but they were “new”.

I bought it
and it looks exactly like the free version. Obviously I bought it for the audio, which doesn’t kick in until opening day, but I still expected something more in addition to that. Once the audio works, I’ll be satisfied, though.

I think the paid app will also have in-game video highlights

Audio Issue?
So i tried this for the first time last night and even with the audio up as loud as I could get it, it seemed I could barely hear it. Id be curious to know if this is happening to anyone else. I have a 3g Iphone if that makes any difference.
with or without
headphones on. i tried listening to the mets/reds game today and the audio was too low without headphones. with, it was fine.

Audio Not Working
I bought the MLB app, and audio didn’t work at all, even with 5 bars of service and 3G network active. Anyone else have luck with this?
There were major growing pains with both the iPhone app
and the new MLB.TV media player last night, but I did get the Houston audio feed on the phone. The WGN feed was only there for a few minutes.
Let’s hope they figure this out real soon.
"Who's Bob Brenly? The guy that used to be the manager for Arizona?" ~ Alfonso Guilleard Soriano
If you don't mind me asking,
is the gameday function different than the free version?
if this was still new to me, i wouldn't understand
I wasn't using it
(I’m not a big Gameday user. Since i get all Cubs games on MLB.TV and audio and that’s my primary means of watching, I don’t find the supplemental nature of Gameday very useful the way most people do – who I assume use it at work and such.)
I did notice it looking a lot more like the full Gameday on a PC than the free app version. And looking at archived games now, there’s a lot more to see on the paid version than the free version, which only provides a line score. The archived games on the full version have line score, box score, play by play per inning, and a field diagram (picturing the last out of the game). I remember the live batter/pitch graphics on there last night.

Worked great for me...
I listended to the cubs game on WGN on my way back from the air port in a cab with no AM radio.
they mixed up with buttons .. the HOU link was wgn and the CHN link was houston… but they both worked for me in between ohare and clark/sheffield where i live.
I thought the app was great – hopefully they iron out the tech problems the other users were having b/c w/out blackout restrictions - this thing ROCKS.
The MLB app
is badly in need of an update. It crashes regularly, in addition to the problems receiving WGN audio. Come on guys, it’s time for version 1.1.
It worked fine last season (although audio wasn’t available then), so I know you can do it.
work for iPod touch?
I don’t have an iPhone (i’m a blackberry guy), but have been thinking about getting an iPod touch for the apps. Does anyone know if this app or other MLB ones work on iPod touches? I didn’t know if the iPod has 3G or if it’s all Edge..
the ipod
has wifi only. no cell data network at all.

3g iphone
Just got it yesterday. The volume is very soft without headphones or some sort speak hook up. Not a problem for me but I reckon they’ll fix that.
Coverage got dicey once I got near the hills. I live in Hollywood. Overall I think it will get the job done. Hopefully they iron out the bugs.

this is strange
for tuesdays extra inning game, neither audio worked after the ninth inning. now that’s a bug that will need fixing.

This is interesting.
The WGN feed STILL isn’t working on the MLB.com web site, but I just bought the iPhone app and can hear it there.
No recaps
Why don’t they provide game recaps inside the app? Lame.
