BCB's Shiny New Toys

Last night I mentioned that the site would be down for a couple of hours for upgrades.

Here are some of them. We now have a new team page with links to stories, FanPosts and FanShots from here and other SBN sites about the Cubs. On the top of the page there are tabs linking to the schedule, roster and team stat pages (the stat page will be live after Opening Day, so I didn't link it here.

Each player also has his own individual stat page (this link goes to Geovany Soto's), with complete career stats (yes, I know it looks odd with those leading and trailing zeroes. I've asked about those).

SBN has also contracted with the AP and Getty Images to give us access to licensed game photos from every game. The one here is from yesterday's game vs. the Royals.

Hope you like these, and also, if you haven't checked it out on your wireless device, we also have a version formatted for those at mobile.bleedcubbieblue.com (the tech team is working on ways for you to post comments there).

It's extremely cool.

I hope to have at least one photo to post in each recap and game thread.

Thanks for the mobile version

I want to say thanks in particular for the mobile version. I used to read the blog on my phone using the RSS feed, which was cumbersome and not at all timely. The new mobile version fixes all the old problems and makes it an absolute pleasure to read on the go.

Thanks again, and go Cubs!

Al: ditto on the mobile version!

Now it will be easy to stay up on my Cub gossip while I am standing in lines for groceries, etc… in LA for the type A who can not stand still, you have made me more productive!

Eventually, SBN will have ways for you to post comments on the mobile version.

I like!

Likes make it easier to catch up instead of scrolling down to find everything. Nice!

I noticed that, too.

I’ll send that along to the tech team.

Great upgrades.

I agree with spaceboy2001, the mobile version makes life on the road a lot easier. Also, I will enjoy the player’s pages once the season starts.

Me three! Thanks especially for the mobile version!

I have a hellacious commute and often find myself with little computer time on weekends, so I’ve really got into using my phone to stay updated on stuff.

I’m intrigued with the concept of (eventually) using my phone to post comments. NOMAR style, here I come.

Wow!

Great upgrades! I remember when BCB didn’t have any bells and whistles… glad to see my fave Cubs blog doing so well!

Nice

I was literally thinking yesterday how useless the old Team page was. Good upgrade. Someone gets 1,000 BCB points.

potential tweak...

It would be cool if you could quickly flip through the new images on the front page of a story without having to expand the story or all of the images.

This website has so many freakin' bugs, it's unbelievable

Apparently, Shanhai Badger and I share the same account.

Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, we’re on the account I’m on right now.

There's no way I was the only one...

who had access to the mobile BCB all this time, is there? I use an iPhone, but it’s always defaulted to mobile.bleedcubbieblue.com (we’re talking since August last year). Was I not supposed to be able to see that site until now? I guess I’m only asking because everyone here is freaking out about it, and I just assumed it was there for everyone to see this whole time.

When I first saw something about a mobile site in this post, I was super excited that mobile posting was here. SBNation NEEDS to get on that, it kills me not being able so type up a post on the go.

Also, I don’t think I’m the only one here, but this site is getting busier and busier. Not to mention it’s consistently one of the slowest pages to load out of all the sites I check, but it just has so much going on at once. I know people like these new pictures you’re going to have, but that just adds to the clutter IMO. There are just so many links and so much information that I think it can be a little overwhelming sometimes. I’m not sure if I’m in the complete minority here, just my $.02.

I realize there's a lot going on here.

We’re trying to get as much Cubs info here as possible. What is it that’s overwhelming you?

I've had no problems getting the site to load

is it slow on a mobile device or on a home computer?

I love the more photos section.

Great picture of Ted Lilly pitching.

Is anyone else having trouble accessing the mobile site?

I entered " mobile.bleedcubbieblue.com" as a favorite on my mobile phone but, when I click on that link, it appears to take me to the regular version of BCB. That is, I get a huge log-in screen and the huge BCB logo and then my phone tells me"Insufficient memory for this operation."

Oddly enough, I tried it first thing this morning and it seemed to work. A different-looking, mobile-friendly page showed up. But when I tried to view the comments on Al’s April Fool’s post, the site took me to the regular version of BCB with the huge log-in screen and BCB logo. I just tried it again and the regular version of BCB showed up – with the “insufficient memory” error message.

Let them know what mobile phone you’re using and what browser it has. That’d be really helpful in trying to fix this problem.
