First Three Roster Cuts Announced
This is hardly even worth doing -- three reductions to the 60 players in camp, none of them a surprise: Ed Campusano, Andrew Cashner and Rocky Roquet were returned to minor league camp.

Now the manager came in, stinking of gin, and proceeded to lie on the table..
He said Rocky you met your match
And Rocky said, Lou it’s only a scratch
And I’ll be better I’ll be better Lou as soon as I am able.
Now Rocky Roquet he fell back in his room
Only to find Gideon’s bible
A Gideon checked out and he left it no doubt
To help with good Rocky’s revival.

from around the camps
• The Cubs are wisely taking it slow with talented. but fragile. right-hander Rich Harden, who said, "We’ve got a long spring. There’s no sense in rushing things."
• You’ve got to love resident baseball scholar Aaron Heilman, who told me he thought it was "serendipitous" that he was traded to the Cubs, since he already made his winter home in a Chicago suburb. The Notre Dame alum is a candidate for the rotation but isn’t campaigning for the role that the Mets didn’t think he could fill. Sean Marshall is the favorite, but Heilman definitely is in the mix, especially after a strong first start.

questions ...
Do you think Hoffpair makes the trip north?
Fontenot solid 2b (I hope so)?
Marshall will begin season at 5, and if so, JS in long relief? I think Jeff looks to have bulked up over the past few months, expecting a shot a the rotation. Thoughts?
Thanks much,
Kevin

If Marshall wins the #5 spot...
… Samardzija probably starts the season at Iowa in the rotation there.

heilman
is winning the wrestle-off for # 5 so far, imo… samardzija loos like he will be heading to iowa for a little while
lou seems to favor the lefty martian; who has also had a good ST so far

lou does love
lefty’s.

Marshall is winning the battler for #5.
Lou wants the 2nd lefty, I think. Heilman will wind up in the bullpen.

But I'd bet he'll end up getting at least 5 starts over the season

Sure, why not.
It’s nice to be able to have at least two relievers (Heilman, Gaudin) who could start if needed and someone at Iowa (Samardzija) likely major-league ready soon.
