OT: Best baseball iPod touch apps
I am hopefully going to get an iPod touch on Sunday, and am doing some "research" (if you want to call it that) on some of the apps that are out there. I was wondering if anyone had any definite suggestions on good baseball apps. I am definitely planning on getting MLB At Bat, but I was wondering if there were any other baseball apps that were good. Also, suggestions on apps or even the iPod touch (8g) would be appreciated.
Also, does the MLB At Bat require WiFi to work, or does it work independently?

iPhone Suggestions...
… would be appreciated as well! I used SportsTap last season, and it was OK, but i’m confident there is better, and i’d love to be able to stream live game audio on my commute home on the CTA.
@cubswgnrocks… you’ll need wifi to get any updates to the MLB At Bat or any other application.

Since you commute, you might like the CTA Bus Tracker.
I find it useful and can’t wait ’til they add the rest of the bus routes.
I just got my iPod Touch so they only baseball app that I’ve found to be much use is the MLB at bat. I’m not much of a fantasy player so the apps with a bunch of stats don’t really interest me.
BTW, XM is supposed to launch an app by the end of Q2. I’m interested to see what will be included and how much it will cost.
Hey, it's a new century!

Not a fan of sports tap
I really like Sportacular. It’s much faster and has a better layout IMO. Also you can interract with other people watching the game on the app

Sportacular
is my favorite sports/baseball application as well. The other sports application I use is Y! Fan — it is great if you use Yahoo for any fantasy sports league — very easy to manage your fantasy team. It also has other nice links to sports headlines and fantasy news.

There is a really cool one
Called “baseball”. I think it is free (or $0.99 at the most) and it is a database of every team’s roster and their yearly stats throughout the team’s history.

Apparently it's now called...
…“Baseball Statistics 2009 Edition” and costs $2.99.
Thanks for the tip on this – pretty darn hip! Nice to be able to look up the 1890-whatever Cleveland Spiders and relive that great game from last summer when the ’08 Cubs beat ’em!

Yes. It is GREAT when you're at the bar and arguing stats with another baseball buddy!

Baseball
is awesome. It goes back to the 1869 Cinci Reds, every player, every league (Player’s, Brotherhood, Federal), every individual’s season stats. And it lives on your iPod, no wifi or phone connection required. You can win a lot of bets with this gem.

Last year I made a free baseball app for the iPhone...
It was called MLB Standings, and it simply was a nice interface for tracking the Standings of MLB teams quickly and easily, but sadly I had the idea really late in the season so it was fairly useless after a few weeks.
At Bat never had standings, they do now, but I still don’t like their Standings interface. I always wanted to check the standings when following the Cubs in the final weeks, and this made it so much easier. So I may bring it back for 2009 and put it up in the next week or two once baseball starts up again. Hopefully someone will find it useful.
