Around SBN: Win or Lose, Boston Celtics' New Big 3 Era A Success

Luis Montanez is not happy with being sent down in deference to Felix Pie, and Oriole fans are rallying on his behalf. Some of the comments suggesting Andy McPhail has a hard-on for Pie are priceless. I give these Birdo fans a lot of credit because many have already figured out that Felix Pie cannot hit his way out of a paperbag.

You know

So often I read through a post and think “this person sounds a lot like Blue Mike” . . . and then I look down a line and realize it is you, Mike. I’m not saying I either agree or disagree with your point here or otherwise, but you have a way of going about saying them that is unmistakably . . . you.

is it just me

or has Pie turned out to be Joey Gathright with lesser upside at this point?

ha

nice one

Okay, just so I understand it... in your wildest fantasy, you are in hell. And you are co-running a bed and breakfast with the devil.

Felix still has plenty of upside - and, yes, more than Gathright.

Don’t forget this is spring training. Having said that, I really have no personal attachment to Pie anymore. Honestly, reading that thread, I’m kinda glad Hendry traded him just so he’s no longer a huge question mark on the Cubs roster.

what has Pie done in his career

besides flop?

If you don't see...

how a 24 year old former top prospect who has performed well at AAA has ‘more upside’ than a 27 year old with only one season of ML success (and only 74 games in that season) than you are either completely stubborn or completely stupid.

but that was not what i asked, and you replied to my question:

“what has Pie done in his career besides flop?

I understand Pie is younger, and did play well at AAA, but Hoff has shown more promise at MLB level than Pie. Pie has done nothing at MLB level to give me confidence in him. I wish him well, and I am glad he is no longer our headache.

Alright...

try to keep up with the conversation. I disagreed with your original opinion, you responded, so I argued with your original point.

He's 24 with ML success...

That’s beside the point, however, as I originally just stating how ridiculous your statement about Gathright having more upside was.

Good grief

At some point the “upside” argument gets thrown out the window. Felix Pie lacks the fundamental ability to hit major league pitching. He’s 24 and spent three seasons at Triple A ball for crying out loud.

by BLou on Apr 2, 2009 3:34 PM CDT up reply actions

I'm sick of hearing about "upside' when it comes to guys like Pie

Lou and Gerald Peary worked with him in winter ball two seasons ago to shorten his swing-he came into ST last year and, rather than stick with it, he went back to his old ways. I think they pretty much figured out then that he was uncoachable and would likely never be able to utilize the tools he has.

Add my voice to the chorus of fans glad that he’s no longer our problem

IIRC

Didn’t he turn down help as well at one time or another form the coaches?

I recall no such thing.

Kinda doubt that was an option.

Now with him I could see it happening.

it was him

he told Sarge to leave him alone, cuz Sarge had nothing to teach him about hitting.

forgive me for getting the two temporarily confused

Which is interesting

since Terry Crowley, the Orioles hitting coach, was on air yesterday saying how happy he was with Pie’s last 40 at bats or so.

Now, I realize that’s part of his job to speak highly of his players, but I think the Orioles brass is going to give Pie every chance to realize his talent.

That's like saying...

all BCBers are crapping all over Gregg. Yeah, some are, but most are actually waiting to form a judgment until he performs.

Montanez is a 27 year old with limited success in the minors. He has options while Pie does not. It makes sense for a struggling franchise to see if Pie can ever reach his potential.
