Correct.

The actual update is that Hill was put on the DL three days ago.

And another more recent update, from earlier today

http://masnsports.com/2009/04/pre-game-notes-5.html

Rich Hill threw an extended bullpen session today. He’ll report to Sarasota tomorrow afternoon, after working out here in the morning.

Hill, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list, said his elbow and back feel great and he’s been much more consistent with his pitches.

So he's on the DL for a sore elbow...

…but his elbow feels great. RRRRRiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.

That really stinks

Some people were saying he was going to be better than Z last year.

Not entirely

He was good in 07, remember? A lot of people seem to forget that he was the Cubs #3 starter that year, and quite a good one.

Eh

He had a GREAT April in 2007, but outside out of that he was pretty mediocre, at best, the rest of the year.

by kanderber on Apr 2, 2009 4:36 PM CDT up reply actions

Are you basing that statement on his ERA?

Mediocre?

His ERA was under 4. He also won 11 games. He did have a great April, but a 4.41 ERA the rest of they way is still decent.

I'm not sure I'd characterize a 4.41 ERA as "decent"...

…that number would need to be a little closer to 4.00 to say that. But Rich had fantastic strikeout numbers throughout the ’07 season. He was definitely a good pitcher that year.

So you are basing your statement above on ERA?

No

It’s decent in my opinion. 5 and above is mediocre.

Dude, I want YOU to be my pitching coach.

I wouldn't settle for it

But for a rookie season, that’s decent.

Yeah, I guess it could've been worse.

And, like I said, his strikeout and walk numbers that season were excellent. He did give up a lot of home runs, though – 27. I could swear Mike Cameron hit half of those.

And I guess I’d break down ERA like this:

3.00 or below – Excellent
3.00 – 3.99 – Good
4.00 – 4.50 – Average/mediocre (according to Yahoo!, league average ERA is currently 4.32)
4.50 – 5.00 – Poor
5.00 and above – Bus ticket

I just came across this wiki-type article on ERA and found it pretty interesting.

If I'm not mistaken...

…I believe the O’s were considering Hill their number three starter before he went down with this injury. If that’s not a sign of how desperate they are for starting pitching, I don’t know what is.

Maybe they'd take Chad Gaudin?

Couldn't hurt to try.

I know Hendry’s gone to that well many, many times before, but it may not be dried up yet.

Wait, are you saying Hendry should take back Rich Hill?

i think

he’s saying that if they give us something for gaudin, they can have hill for nothing.

Rich Hill reminds me of Rodney Dangerfield in Caddyshack...

The scene where he starts flailing away his left arm and says “ohhhh, my arm !!” and gets Danny Noonan to substitute for him in the match against Judge Smales.
