OT: Grooming the Next Generation

So, Max is in little league.  He's extremely enthusiastic, but he's never been on a real team before, and this is really his introduction to playing baseball.

Yesterday, he almost got a hit.  A little bit harder hit, or farther to the left, and the second baseman wouldn't have fielded it in time.

But I'm struggling with teaching him how to hit better, and, more importantly, how to THROW better.  He skies the ball out -- everything's ballistic, and there's not enough force behind it.

I can get him -- and I'm going to be getting him -- a batting tee so he can practice hitting.  But I don't know hot to teach him how to throw better.  He pulls his arm back properly, but then it's almost like he's shotputting it.  I can't figure it out.

Anyone -- former LL coaches -- know how I could teach him better?

BTW, I've been made an assistant coach for the team.  I have to say, I'm loving it.

Anyway, thanks for all your advice.  :D
