How long should be give Lou as the manager?
Alright, while I personally think Lou will continue to have a significant career in the Majors, I am concerned about him being the type of manager that gives his favorite players too much leeway. I've stated here before how Lou can make really strange decisions, but I don't think Lou will ever see Theriot as the disaster at SS as some of us do. This may have more to do with Lou's expectations of him at the plate and his above average offense, but his bat will never make up for the terrible mistakes in the field and on the basepaths. (I wouldn't dare say this to Lou's face - so, to whoever is reading this, please don't listen to me because I don't have a "trained eye", do you think Lou has a trained eye?).
Anyway, having said that, I think that maybe if he is still allowing Theriot to remian at SS after this next start, he needs to have his blood pressue medication changed at the very least and maybe even given shock therapy and have his contract bought out.. I would put Trammell in as manager, who I have much more confidence in knowing what it takes to be a ML SS and I imagine Alan could shake things up and would be a good motivator as well.
Not at all saying this after four games and is in no way a knee jerk reaction, but even the staunchest Lou fan must admit his propensity to allow relievers to fail over and over and still stick with them while ignoring the same thing on defense with postion player is maddening. Other managers make the adjustments needed on defense and so far what Ive seen from him in the ST and the regular season and today, I don't see any signs of him making an adjustment as his double swithes look just as ridiculous as last year.
Who would you put in the manager's spot if Lou continues his struggles in the dougout?

A lot of problems today
Lou brings in Marshall and Cotts to get a lefthanded batter out, Marshall walks Prince and Cotts hits Cousnell.
Soriano butchers the ball in left, why is he out there?
Gregg walks Chris Duffy? Come one.
Then with runners on the corners the groundball to Theriot. Now if your going to go for two, Theriot looked like he was half way, not all the way in, then go for two. Theriot looked surprised that Weeks was going, and from what 75 feet Theriot could not get the ball to home without bouncing up there.
Problem is, who to play at short?
This was not Lou’s finest day. However don’t walk Chris Freaking Duffy

My issues with Lou today
1. Bringing in Cotts after Heilman was doing fine
2. Pulling Cotts for Marmol, wasting him for the 8th
3. Pinch hitting a ground ball hitter, Miles, instead more of a fly ball hitter in Hoff, in a sac fly situation.
Those aren’t reasons to fire him. He’s been great and led the Cubs to a great 2 years, and was great at rebuilding this team after 06. Relax, his contract in up in 2010. He’ll most likely retire.

Ridiculous
2/81. That is the fraction of games that have been played so far this season. If we win, he is a genius. “Wow, the genius does it again. He knew all the match-ups.” Untimely mental mistakes. Unclutch hitting. Bad play from the SS positions. Bad day. If we win 14 – 2 tomorrow, is he still an idiot?

Everything will be just fine, DESPITE Lou's occasional incompetence
I’m not worried at all — I think the Cubs will be just fine and will take the division easily. But come on — it’s pretty much indisputable that Lou makes some staggeringly poor decisions. I mean, it’s really kind of astonishing how bad he can be.
I know, hindsight is 20/20 and all that, but I definitely figured he’d pinch hit Hoff when he used Miles instead. Pinch hitting Miles in that situation is playing not to lose rather than playing to win. Even if Miles drove in a run, or if Hoff came up and hit into the double play that Miles did, pinch hitting Hoff is still the right decision there, no question.
And then I was taken aback when he brought in Marshall and then pulled him after one batter. This was a close game that easily could have gone into extras, and Marshall’s your long man. Lou was going through relief pitchers like kids eat Skittles.
And someone please explain the logic of taking out Kosuke, the team’s best defensive outfielder? Sorry, but I defy anyone on this board to make a case for Lou on that one.
Yes, the players are obviously at fault — Gregg walking Duffy, Theriot’s decision, the lack of a clutch hit when all of us could sense that an insurance run was vitally important. But even when they don’t affect the outcome of the game, some of Lou’s decisions are simply incompetent.

overkill
As I am the one that Santo’s Wooden Legs (which I’ve always taken offense to) is trying to mock, I would like to say that I did find the first post funny, mainly because Dome did well. Like any Cub, any criticisms I have of some, I hope they prove me wrong, which over the last 2 days he has. I didn’t see the game in which he had 4 hits against the stros, but i’ve heard that 3 of them were on first pitch fastballs, which I’ve never doubted Dome’s ability to hit a fastball. In yesterday’s game in which he had 2 hits, he proved me wrong again. Especially his double down the LF line which was a breaking ball away and he stayed back and hit a line drive down the line. I hope he keeps proving me wrong. I will never root against any Cubs player, ever. He did strike out on a curve ball that he was way out in front of and got fooled bad, but that’s going to happen.
Yesterday’s concern for me was the bullpen. Gregg looks to me like a poor mans joe borowski. Viscaino even though he didn’t allow any Runs, was not impressive at all. Short arms it and only throws 88. Even Marmol was less than impressive. His fastball was there but not the usual Marmol break on his slider that I’m used to seeing. Not worried about him though and he will be the Cubs closer soon, especially once gregg get’s in Lou’s doghouse.
very questionable moves by Lou yesterday, the most glaring to me was the Miles PH as opposed to Hoff’s, who has a natural upper cut swing. Hell, i’d rather see Gathwright in that situation if Lou was so worried about staying out of the DP.
It is a long season, and that’s what I imagine SWL is trying to say and he’s right, but this is still an open forum where people should be able to express their opinions, negative or not.
Anway SWL, I am honoerd.

Problem I had is how the hell you take Kosuke (certainly one of our better OF’s) out for a defensive replacement and leave Soriano and Bradley in the game. What’s the point?
Also, I read where he berated Koyie Hill for calling a breaking ball on the 3-2 pitch to the leadoff hitter in the 9th. Isn’t it ultimately Kevin Gregg’s responsibility to shake him off or execute the pitch?

I think what would be even funnier than these posts would be something like...
….The Matrix of Blame, that could be linked to on the side bar on the site. The Matrix would display most of the roster guys, the managers, coaches, the goat, announcers, addition of or lack thereof speedgrass, etc…The columns would have the weekly game schedule as the headings. Each cell entry of The Matrix would be used for assigning blame and I suppose the lauding of praise, but really a tool like this is primarily used for assigning blame. When you put your mouse cursor over a given cell it magnifies or zooms the latest entry for that cell and if you click then you can post your own entry. In order for the Matrix to function properly a comment must be limited to something like 20-30 characters.
We could even have weekly or daily polls to determine the next row entry to the Matrix, i.e., excuses to add or blame to assign.

Easy answer to all our problems
Hoff and EA have 25 boys
they are trained to become the greatest Cubs team ever. To ensure no one but the CUbs get all 25, the kids are born adn raised in Thailand so they are not forced into the draft.
Until then, we let Hoff picth (both as a starter and from the bullpen), pinth hit, and play all positions not named Catcher, where we let Lilly play.

5 Years
I think you’re dead wrong. Lou is the best manager the Cubs have had in my lifetime. Theriot is batting .550 right now. Last year when they were struggling, he did one of his on field shenanigans and got them going.
The only knock on him was during the playoffs last year, not shaking things up. The players off the bench played exceptionally well the last week of the regular season, and I think he should have given them a few more chances.

Leave Lou alone
He managed one Hell of a game today. Lilly 1-hit the Rox. I’m surprised Lou didn’t blow a gasket on the home plate umps eyesight or lack thereof. A very generous strike zone. Guess they enlarged the plate from 17" across to 20" today.
