hey question for you:

why doesn’t a manager use his closer everyday because he’s probably your best reliever? Even if you’re down 3 runs, he’s your best pitcher so you should just use him anyway. I mean he’ll get you outs because he’s your best pitcher right…

by lexmarklover on Apr 12, 2009 10:01 PM CDT up reply actions

We’re not down by three! We’re up by three! Yes, that’s when you use you best relievers.

by Cubsfanatic on Apr 12, 2009 10:10 PM CDT reply actions

This is why nobody understands this Gregg/Marmol discussion.

Marmol is too valuable (and too good) to be used in only 1-2-3 9th innings. He needs to be used in high leverage, game-changing situations. Not once we already have the lead, but when we need to maintain it or prevent scoring. That’s why Carlos is a better 7-8 inning weapon than a 9th inning one. The ESPN guys don’t get that. It’s not a controversy, and Lou even addressed this YESTERDAY in the post-game.

And though I dislike him like most people on this board, Steve hillips did say he understood that point. At the same time, Gregg presents a problem, no doubt about it.

You know, I never noticed that resemblance.

And, from virtually every appearance I’ve seen from Gregg, yes, I have to agree. He is not good. At all. Let’s see what Heilman does in the coming weeks. I do feel he could serve as an 8th inning set-up to White Castle. But hey. It’s early.
