I got a text from a buddy in Wrigleyville at 6 a.m. tipping me off to this. IMHO, it's junk like this that makes us a joke to the rest of baseball.
In news that actually matters, my friend also said it wasn't raining at Wrigley yet. So there's that.

I got a Twit pic from the Cubscast guys on this incident.

LINKY.

WARNING: THE IMAGE IS PRETTY DISTURBING.

So, forgive me for being dense, but what the hell does this mean? Is it an attempt to kill the curse? Prolong it? Summon the Blair Witch? If whoever did this is out there, please just stop.

You can call me "20K."

eh in class, I guess wouldn't be prudent to look!

but is it similar to the one in 07?

Luckily, some of us have no class

If the one in 2007 was just a head, then it’s exactly like the one in 2007.

Yeah, this time it's just the head.

I guess the economy is affecting everyone – even psycho animal mutilator/statue vandals.

You can call me "20K."

Last year's was skinned as well.

Not that makes it any cooler/grosser/etc. Ridiculous. There’s no curse, we’ve just really stunk it up that last century.

So if this makes us a joke...

… why post it?

Why not?

Should we pretend things like this don’t happen? It’s possible the person doing this thinks Cubs fans appreciate his efforts. If we outcry and call him a jerk-off, maybe stuff like this will stop.

by rob9802 on Apr 13, 2009 10:08 AM CDT up reply actions

No, if you outcry and make a big deal about it...

… it’ll happen again.

If you ignore it, eventually it’ll stop. All the idiot wants is attention. You’ve given it to him.

by Al Yellon on Apr 13, 2009 10:16 AM CDT up reply actions

I disagree

The idiot wants attention, right. But if you ignore him, he simply does something else to get the attention. (Two goat heads? Who knows.)
I shouldn’t have suggested that an outcry would help (obviously, it probably won’t), but I certainly don’t see the benefit in sticking our head in the sand about this.

by rob9802 on Apr 13, 2009 10:23 AM CDT up reply actions

To think about what the assailant wants is really not the point in this situation.

I understand where Al is coming from, but IMO, this is a Cubs news blog. And like it or not, this is news and certainly worthy of a fanshot. My logical side says anyone hopeless and deranged enough to resort to a stunt like this is not an avid blog participant.

It all depends on what you define as "news".

This is a stunt made for attention, nothing more. To me, that really isn’t news.

Any chance that whomever keeps doing this is a Sox fan?

Who knows. Go Cubbies!!

Ignoring this won't make it go away

Al, idiocy doesn’t always need an audience. It can exist in a vacuum.

by Nibbles on Apr 13, 2009 10:18 AM CDT reply actions

True.

But if you imply ignore it, it will go away.

Then leave it in the vacuum

Don’t forget – the Cubs brought in a priest to splash holy water in the dugout or bless it or whatever. Equally as stupid.

The world is full of idiots at every level. I’ve neither the time nor energy to get worked up about every stupid thing they do.

i hate idiots like this

maybe a CUb fan, maybe a fan of another team making a mockery of the Cubs, who knows. Either way this kind of crap is horrible.

The reason why the Cubs are a joke to the rest of baseball

is because they haven’t won a championship in over 100 years. Nobody’s laughing at the Red Sox anymore.

by WashUBearCub on Apr 13, 2009 11:44 AM CDT reply actions

yeah and

nobody will be laughing at us after October when we steamroll through the playoffs and win the World Series!!!!!!

I didn't get the players I wanted in the offseason!! Hopefully I get what I want in the Regular Season---The World Series Trophy!! Go Cubbies!!

Well it's gone national

I saw the article on ESPN.com a few minutes ago. So if it was attention this idiot wanted, he got it. I personally think it’s juvenile, immature, disgusting, and something that should not be treated as a prank.

mEDIA

Probably a member of the media put it there to make a story.

Jay is our Quarterback. I REPEAT JAY IS OUR QUARTERBACK. Did I mention we have a Quarterback who happens to be named Jay?.

Maybe Joe Morgan followed the team down from Milwaukee.

I've committed to tweeting about the Cubs for the rest of the reason. (Does that sound as ridiculous as I think it does?) Anyway, if you're on Twitter, you can follow me here.
