It might be 82 here by June.

White Sox postponed today. Too bad so sad.

Kind of odd question for Al

And you know I never ask odd questions.

But right as they were starting to get stuff going and the tarp was gone a Cub came out ran all the way to the right field line and ran back. Couldn’t tell for sure who it was because he had his jacket on. Looked kind of big for Lilly.

Lilly

Always runs the entire length of the bleachers before a start. I cant verify that was him for sure from where I was sitting but more than likely that’s who it was. I dont know anyone else who does the exact same thing.

Why so much standing water on the field with the drainage system?

I know there are drains in the outfield, but I thought a lot of water was supposed to drain through the multiple sub-surfaces.

by BLou on Apr 14, 2009 1:59 PM CDT reply actions

I think that was from the tarp

Even with a drainage system it would probably take some time for the water to seep through.

I dont think there is enough room in foul territory to flip over the tarp the way they do in left field.

It is all the water

that collected on top of the tarp. They then use squeegee type things to push the extra water into the drains

by AndHart120 on Apr 14, 2009 2:01 PM CDT up reply actions

Right.

In the past, that water just sat there. Yesterday, it drained out in about 20 minutes with the squeegees.

I heard something interesting

Anyone else hear this?

The same people from Colorado who were bemoaning the loss of Cutler told me the word out there is Hendry decided to fire Baker and hire Pinella by mid-2006 and decided not to fire Baker until end of season since he knew who he wanted and Lou wasn’t interested in taking over mid season.

Jay is our Quarterback. I REPEAT JAY IS OUR QUARTERBACK. Did I mention we have a Quarterback who happens to be named Jay?.

I think they said its a rib cage strain

So I don’t know what that means in terms of time being out, but I’m guessing he misses the Sunday Night start this week.

The funny thing is the Cardinal fans on campus were getting so cocky about how a healthy Carpenter would make us second fiddle in the division. 10 innings into the season he is hurt even if its for a short time you can never ever trust guys like this, and that includes Rich Harden.

I didn't say I was rooting for an injury...

…I said I’m not sad to see one of the best players on a rival’s team go down. He’s WAAAY worse than Harden, and just as bad as Prior, but gets no PR because he’s not in a big time market. He’s a good guy, but they are our rivals for a reason.

Dan

PS – Also, this is why we need +1/-1 unrec/rec, like Digg. So you can digg me down. It’s only fair. I’ve asked SBN for this twice. The recommend feature is worthless if there is no alternate.

i don't know what the hell you're talking about.

carpenter is one of the best pitchers in the game. he’s better than anyone we have, though harden has a nastier pitch. the cardinals are less frightening without him, but rejoicing like that is completely bush league.

Carpenter isn't better than Zambrano

Go look at the numbers. Big Z is better, healthier, and aside from the one Cy Young season Carpenter never has Z numbers.

I thought it was quite obvious that I was comparing INJURY (Harden/Carp/Prior) and not statistics. I’ve said twice now I was not “rejoicing”, as you put it. The Cardinals are our biggest rivals, especially in this year’s division race, and frankly, it doesn’t bother me if he’s injured again. The guy’s been injured for the last few years anyway. I distinctly remember saying on this blog last year that when Pujols went down, I was sad to see one of the best players in the game get injured, but I wasn’t sad to see one of the best players we play on a regular basis not be in the lineup.

Opening Day @ Wrigley and miserable weather...

Our anniversary is April 5th, we just made 11 years; it seems more like 20. Just kidding but seriously several years back we decided to do Wrigley for our Anniversary. We had a damn good time dogging rain underneath and in the breezeways, drinking some brews and piggin’ out. Just the same we made a choice right then and there, from now on go when we have the best chance to enjoy the game. Which is not at the end of July or early August for that matter either.

… and yes I agree that these conditions raise possibilities of injuries, but what’a ya’ gonna do?
