I loved Madden

He’s the Dick Vitale of football

If the world didn't suck we would all fall off.

Vitale is a blow hard. How many NBA/NCAA championship teams did he coach?

Madden until recently was great. I’ll always remember watching the tape of the Jan ’86 playoff game at Soldier when he described the FG attempt by the Giants (not the Landetta punt whiff) and said, “…it just hit the upright; doink!”

Being a good coach...

does not make you a better announcer. His coaching record has nothing to do with his ability to call a game. Vitale was a great announcer, but he absorbed his own personality too much to where he’s almost a joke these days. He means a lot to college basketball, but his time has passed.

Same with Madden…his time has passed, but that doesn’t take away all he’s done prior.

I don't necessarily agree that Vitale was a great announcer

There was a time where his personality lent something to the game of college basketball (for better or worse). I agree that it’s just a question of personality at this point. And he is a blow hard who blows hard about everything except the action on the court. Ideally, your announcer might add something to your enjoyment but does not detract from the game or distract you from paying attention (which is what I like about Pat Hughes).

John Madden...

Was just a football announcer, and what I mean by that is he announced football games… BOOM!

Someday we'll go all the way...

I liked him

I liked him until a few years ago when he should have retired because he clearly was losing it.

Jay is our Quarterback. I REPEAT JAY IS OUR QUARTERBACK. Did I mention we have a Quarterback who happens to be named Jay?.

Isn't Caliendo gonna have fun with that

Madden’s retirement just gave Caliendo a whole years’ worth of new material.
