Ballgame.

And Willy Tavares acts like they just clinched the division or something.

Kevin Gregg sucks.

.043 isn’t going to cut it. And let’s start a tally now of all the called third strikes he takes this year. sigh

Well, there was the one last Thursday...

which clearly was a terrible call. And then tonight. So… three. In ~30 at bats. More than you would like out of your clean up hitter, but certainly nothing absurd. But should be 2 in 30. Not bad, not bad at all.

by kanderber on Apr 22, 2009 10:04 PM CDT up reply actions

I agree that was a bad call..

but he also didn’t swing at all in that at bat. I mean, any one of us can walk up to the plate tomorrow and keep the bat on our shoulder. Or at least any of the other FA’s that were passed on to sign him.

That's a pretty silly complaint.

He should’ve had an RBI walk, yet you’re faulting HIM because the ump made a terrible call?

by kanderber on Apr 22, 2009 10:08 PM CDT up reply actions

he's our cleanup hitter. He shouldn't be praying for a walk

and what many like yourself continue ignoring is that the 3-1 pitch was right down the middle at 86 MPH.

That’s the kind of pitch the kind of player he’s SUPPOSED to be is generally going to light up.

He’s timid. He’s looking to walk instead of putting the ball in play. Hence not a silly complaint

You must have hated the book "Moneyball"

if you think that some players should avoid walks…

by CubsWin!Oregon on Apr 22, 2009 10:48 PM CDT up reply actions

Gotta wonder why a guy who's career high in home runs is 22

is batting cleanup in the first place.

by BoVandy on Apr 22, 2009 10:39 PM CDT up reply actions

Not silly at all...

the man has had over 30 at bats and has driven in 1 run. And he has constantly been up in RBI situations, yet he is not doing the job. In that particular at bat, swing at one of the 7 pitches and send a fly ball to the outfield at the very least, get an RBI that way. Makes me wonder if his high OBP from last year was pitchers pitching around him as opposed to him having a “good eye”.

You guys need to tread lightly here...

if Milton ever reads any of this, the defecation could impact the rotating air circulation blades.

As I've told you before, I never repeat myself.

by santoswoodenlegs on Apr 22, 2009 10:13 PM CDT reply actions

That's another thing, too

I know you were saying that in jest but with Milton’s temper, I can totally see him flipping out on the fans. And this could be the beginning of a tumultous relationship.

Glad I skipped

the game threads tonight. Looks like the usual morons making the usual moronic comments.

Get ‘em tomorrow and they’ll all love ’em again.

Pretty Crazy

how quickly this place goes absolutely over the top. Instead of taming the beast, lets see what this does:

WE ARE TIED WITH THE PIRATES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"How's your mother?"
"She's on her way out."
"We all are. Act accordingly."

by louslovechild on Apr 22, 2009 10:32 PM CDT up reply actions

The Pirates aren't going to be a pushover this season

It looks like their young pitching is coming around.

And the Reds aren’t bad, either. The morons who post things like “We’re losing? To the Reds?” show their baseball ignorance.

by Not Bruce Froemming on Apr 22, 2009 10:36 PM CDT up reply actions

I completely agree

The Cubs window is very small. The Pirates and Reds have really done nice jobs keeping their farm system going. This division will be upside down in a few years. Sad part is 5,000 people show up to watch the Pirates and they will never be able to spend money.

"How's your mother?"

Thanks for having my back NBF....

I posted that because I had just got home and saw the score for the first time in the 9th inning when I logged on. I’ll try to be smarter just for you.

As I've told you before, I never repeat myself.

by santoswoodenlegs on Apr 23, 2009 12:09 AM CDT up reply actions

Huh?

I don’t care who posted what. Did I mention your name? I don’t think so. But if you want to out yourself, feel free.

by Not Bruce Froemming on Apr 23, 2009 12:21 AM CDT up reply actions

Out of the thousands of posts

I’m not sure anybody remembers for sure who posts what.

But I’ll say this: You’re too good a baseball fan not to know the Reds aren’t half-bad this season.

by Not Bruce Froemming on Apr 23, 2009 12:34 PM CDT up reply actions

but your post was true poetry

Compared to ...

“Where’s our offense?”

“Bradley sucks”

“Gregg sucks”

“We’re losing? To the Reds?”

Yeah, compared to that, my drivel reads like Shakespeare.

by Not Bruce Froemming on Apr 22, 2009 10:39 PM CDT up reply actions

not really

not sure how calling people morons, is better than anything else. I understand you think that. You skipped the game threads, but managed to rip into posters after the game was over.

Awesome job!

by BoVandy on Apr 22, 2009 10:41 PM CDT up reply actions

I never said "Bradley sucks", nor did anyone in this thread.

so please don’t put words into my mouth. I do think, however, that my comment about his batting avg and called K was more baseball related than “the usual morons are at it again”.

I stand by what I wrote

I think it’s pretty representative of what I read. Sorry if you don’t agree.

by Not Bruce Froemming on Apr 22, 2009 10:44 PM CDT up reply actions

We can disagree, that's fine

and that’s what BCB is all about. What i would prefer though is for you to comment why you think Bradley, or Gregg, or anybody else being discussed has been a positive for the team instead of calling people “morons”.

Because I don't think

a season can be judged on 13 games. Apparently, you think it can.

Less than 10 percent of the season is enough to make a judgment on a player’s worth, you say. That’s “all I got,” but I think it’s substantial.

Are you new to baseball? Have you ever watched a full season before?

by Not Bruce Froemming on Apr 22, 2009 11:29 PM CDT up reply actions

Ted deserves better

This team remains questionable in big RBI chances. Bradley and Aramis both failed in that respect early on, and that set the tone for the game.

I see bad things tomorrow from a really good again Harang and Big Z who tossed BP last game.

Baseball is amazing

Things balance out. Cueto is better than most of the posters here give him credit for. He gave it to us tonight, and dont be suprised if we are on the wrong end tomorrow. Z pitches like crap against lefty heavy line ups, and Harang is pitching well this season. The Reds are not going to be our whipping boy this season.

They really haven't been, anyway

I think the Cubs were 2-4 against the Reds in Cincinnati last year. Don’t know what they were at Wrigley.

And I guess I’m a little crazy, but I prefer to see what happens in the actual game before I predict anything. :)

by Not Bruce Froemming on Apr 22, 2009 11:31 PM CDT up reply actions

I feel the same way

Harang got beat around by us last year, but he wasnt healthy. He is back to 2007 ways, and that does not bode well for the NL Central.

We'll see

If you were to judge Lilly at this point last year, he would have sucked.
