Bradley to sit per WSCR
According to www.670thescore.com Hamp and Holmes
Hendry and Lou have told Bradley he will be hitting 6th when he is 100% and that he will not be in the line up until he is 100%. He (Bradley) was also told to open up the the Chicago Media.
I agree with the idea, and we can only hope that he will still be used as a PH to allow him to still see some pitches.
So who starts in his place (Hoff, Gath, Reed) and who bats clean up until then?

Movement to make Jeff Samardzija our closer!

interesting
today’s lineup, per Wittenmeyer:
Sori, Riot, Dome, Lee, Rami, Hoff, Soto, Fonty, Z
Dome in the #3, Lee in the #4. So much for not messing with the general order of things, so much for having RLRLRLRLR

well
I guess the theory is that Riot, with his OBP, gets on, and then Dome, with HIS OBP and SLG, pushes him across.
Frankly, I’d rather switch Lee with Rami in the new lineup. But then that would put Lee and Soto next to each other, and I dunno how that would work out right now.

+1
IIRC, Dome started to struggle last year when Lou started to move him around in the lineup. He seems very comfortable in the #2 hole, so why move him? I think Lou likes Theriot’s bat in the #2 hole, but I hope Dome doesn’t start to press because he is in more of an RBI spot at #3.

Our lineup is just screwed up perpetually...
because Hendry signed Soriano to be the leadoff hitter. Thus when you have a natural leadoff guy in Theriot having to bounce around the lineup to placate Mr. Moneybags, nobody’s spot in the lineup makes sense anymore.
by Jerry Mumphrey on Apr 23, 2009 1:26 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Good lord you people overvalue lineup construction
“Screwed up perpetually” would imply that having Soriano as the leadoff batter is having some great harmful influence on the lineup.
That Theriot is a “natural leadoff guy” should be making you question why you have such rigid notions of what a leadoff hitter should be, not questioning why Soriano gets the most at bats of any player on the team.
by Wreckard on Apr 23, 2009 1:34 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
My formula: Lead-off guy = someone most likely to get on base, speed is a bonus.
Realize the Cubs offense has failed to show up in six straight playoff games with Soriano leading off. I don’t see all those potential extra at-bats helping. Nothing rigid about it, just pointing out the obvious.
by Jerry Mumphrey on Apr 23, 2009 3:05 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Those extra at bats helped get you there...
You give your best hitters the most at bats. This is a good way to succeed at baseball.
And while Theriot may get to first base more often than Soriano, Soriano is much more likely to already be in scoring position (or to have already scored) either from an extra base hit or a successful stolen base.
Besides, Lee and Ramirez didn’t slump in the playoffs because of poor leadoff hitting. Using that 3 game sample size to determine your lineup seems reactionary, silly, and pointless.
So long as your lineup isn’t ridiculous (pitcher first / sluggers last) one ok lineup doesn’t really have much advantage over another. I’m not sure why people think it’s this huge determining factor in baseball. It’s all in your heads.
by Wreckard on Apr 23, 2009 3:57 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Have you watched Soriano lately?
because that’s what he’s doing. Getting on base. He’s walking, he’s looping singles down the lines.

I like this lineup
I think Ramirez will get plenty of RBI chances, it takes some pressure of of the Hoff, while taking advantage of the OBP that Theriot is putting up so far this season.

from what i understand
the hitting 6th would only be until he starts hitting like he has in the past.

He will.
I think he’s adding pressure on himself to perform at a extremely high level. He needs to relax.

then we can no longer worry about him anymore

That's the reason I love Lou.
Yes, of course, Lou makes some moves that make me shake my head sometimes, but he isn’t scared to tell his players what they need to hear.
I know Bradley is frustrated that he isn’t hitting and that he got injured again .. but hell things happen.

So when will Bradley be 100 percent?
He’s a china doll, that’s the problem. When he has small aches and pains that every other player has, he seems to exaggerate them, its almost like he has OCD with his health. I have a feeling Lou does not like him…

Based on what? If nothing else, Bradley is fiercely competitive. I'm sure Lou likes that. With Milton
it’s a matter of channeling that competitive nature to a positive end. That’s something that Lou is pretty good at. I would think he sees Milton as a challenge. If he can get the best out of Milton, he would have accomplished something.

I see. It's been my observation that managers tend to like players that can
put up offensive numbers like Milton. Managers will overlook a mulitude of sins if a guy can hit homeruns and drive in bunches of runs. Unless the managers has a huge ego, and I don’t think Lou has, he will find a way to get the guy to produce. If he can tolerate Soriano and all of his shortcommings, I think he can find a place in his heart for Milton.

Exaggerrating them
By faking injuries, then going out and insisting on playing with these fake injuries, and then getting told to sit by said manager when those fake injuries hamper his ability to play.
We knew he was a cancer but i don’t think any of us expected he was a fiendish master of reverse psychology. Does his horrible nature know no bounds?!?! Won’t someone think of the children managers?

And is inconsistent with recent events.

are you kidding?
your insisting that I said Bradley has had fake or lied about his injuries, which I said nothing about.

You are saying he has a mental condition which causes him to exaggerate his injuries
You’re saying he can’t play through pain, that his small aches and pains keep him off the field.
These are ridiculous things to say and aren’t consistent with recent events, where Bradley tried to go out and play through the pain, until his manager told him not to.
On top of that you’re projecting your personal dislike of him onto Lou, who has given us no particular reason to believe that he “doesn’t like” Bradley.
I also question your understanding of what OCD is.
by Wreckard on Apr 24, 2009 9:41 AM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
I agree with not playing him until he is ready.
I got fairly angry yesterday while watching Bradley play. The first time was when he had the broken bat hit to first and probably could have beat out the play if he was hustling down the line. Votto did fumble the ball and the pitcher fell down trying to avoid the busted bat. I think if MB was 100% and actually ran it out, he would’ve been safe. There are numerous players I can think of that would also have just moseyed down the line, even if they were completely healthy.
The next two times that I got angry was when MB ran slowly after the 2 balls that Cueto hit and he couldn’t catch them. I yelled at my TV during those plays. I kept thinking, “Why doesn’t Lou take him out of the game if he’s not 100%”? I don’t know why Lou didn’t pull him. It might have been to keep his bat in the game, or maybe Lou didn’t want the media making a big deal out of it.

Your conclusion is probably correct.
The crowd booing everyone on a whim probably handcuffs Lou’s ability to send a message to his Right Fielder without creating a huge distraction.

I forget who the knucklehead was who was making excuses for players not hustling ever play
but this quote seems to tell me Lou believes you better hustle every play
he will run out ground balls
that tells me Lou wants hustle even on a ground ball……much like I was saying before. Give 100%, you never know what will happen with the throw

Why hasn't he served the suspension
I can understand a guy taking a stand. But, at this point shouldn’t Lou or Jim take him aside and ask him to drop it seeing as he’s missed so many games already? Even if his appeal gets the suspension reduced to one game I don’t understand why not just get that out of the way?
by Nibbles on Apr 23, 2009 1:47 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
Lou will not do that
he was a member of the MLBPA and he understands how the process works.

It bothers me
It bothers me he has been told to open up to the media. When the media earns this he should. As long as he isn’t rude to them whatever he does is fine.
Jay is our Quarterback. I REPEAT JAY IS OUR QUARTERBACK. Did I mention we have a Quarterback who happens to be named Jay?.

He supposedly stuffed Jeff Blanzy yesterday.
JB reached out with the mike and asked for the interview and Bradley used his arm to deflect the mike (no rough contact or horrible stuff) and kept walking.
if this was still new to me, i wouldn't understand

Well, the Piniella-Bradley conflict sure didn't take long.
Highly doubt it’ll be the last one.
So far with Milton, he’s A) been kicked out a game, B) gotten hurt, C) loafed it running to first, D) gave a half-assed effort in the outfield, E) has blown off the Chicago media, and F) has already had a run-in with Piniella. Oh, and he’s hitting .043.
This signing is looking worse and worse by the day.

a) Kicked out of a game for arguing with an ump who was clearly doing a poor job
b) Yes. People get hurt. Soto and Aramis have also gotten hurt in this infant season.
c) Ever had a groin injury?
d) Ever had a groin injury?
e) So what?"
f) I think it’s definitely overstating this to suggest that it was a “run in”. He had a conversation with his manager. Happens all the time.
g) What’s his OBP again?
