I've been complaining about the signing of Bradley since it happened, and this pretty much summarizes how I feel over 14 games. I said I'd withhold judgment until the season started...and well, we are almost at 10% of the season now. Not a fan.

A significant change in the signing of GameBoard, as the poster notes, is how much his absence changes our lineup. The middle of the lineup really suffers without Lee performing, Micah playing (at all), or a solid #4-5. Not to mention our RF defensive troubles. Meh.

Hey, I’m not jumping anything. I’ve bitched and complained about signing Milton from Day 1. I’ve never been a fan at all.

I was in favor of Bradley

but moreso when we still had Pie. I thought it would be a perfect opportunity to take one more year’s worth of a crack at Pie panning out, playing him when Bradley was out. Which is to say – you’re right that our roster is exceedingly awkward when Bradley is out. What we need, at this point, is to be able to swap Gathright out for a LH OF Lou will play. Mark Teahen would have fit this club well, with his ability to play RF and 3B.

Derrek Lee is good.

Maybe it's time to give Jim Edmonds a call.

No need.

The team is in St. Louis. They can just stop by his restaurant.

IMO...

jury’s out until we are eliminated from the postseason.

We signed him thinking we had the talent and depth to ride out a few of his injuries; the judgment on MB won’t come until the postseason, or (heaven forbid) until we fall out of playoff contention.

Geez, no crap...

I don’t know if you’re aware of this, but I lived in Manhattan for 10 years so naturally grew up a K-State fan. While I have no problems rooting for the Hawks come March, I still cheer for KSU when they match up…I was hoping we would land that Cousins from Memphis and hopefully develop a little rivalry. Not so much. My roommate walked in yesterday and said “Would you like to hand us the National Championship now, or just wait til next April?”

KU will be absolutely stacked.

Most of the town shut down yesterday during his press conference.

With Sherron, Cole, Taylor, the Morris twins, and now the Henry brothers, I think we will be the overall #1 by a wide margin. Final 4 is probably expected at this point.

The Big 12...

might be down a little bit as well…KU should cruise. I hesitate to hand any team the trophy too soon, but we could be seeing one of the best college basketball teams of all time next year.

Morningstar and Reed should not see more than 10 minutes a game next year.

It’ll be fun to watch next year.

I wasn't onboard either

But the article is a bit harsh. I personally can’t put anybody on my shitlist until after 30 team games. Afterwards, all bets are off.

One day I hope to come up with something worthy of this space.

by chilango2 on Apr 24, 2009 9:31 AM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Hey, everyone's welcome to have an opinion. So here's mine.

This article is a kneejerk, impatient, ridiculously emotional (read: whiny) pre-emptive “I told you so.” (And just because the author writes “I know this will be viewed as a knee-jerk reaction” doesn’t make it any less of one.) I love this line:

…there’s nothing in logic or statistics to back up an argument to keep him in Chicago.

Yeah, what good could a guy projected to put up a .927 OPS in 114 games (per CHONE) do the Chicago Cubs? I mean, c’mon, he’s not talking to the media! Kick his ass to the curb!

I’m not going to sit here and say Bradley has gotten off to a good start. In fact, he’s gotten off to a comically bad one. 1 hit in 30 PAs. Already hurt. Already fighting a suspension. It’s hilarious! It’s also April. There are a lot of games left to play – and Milton Bradley is very good at baseball.

I've committed to tweeting about the Cubs for the rest of the season. (Does that sound as ridiculous as I think it does?) Anyway, if you're on Twitter, you can follow me here.

I didn’t write the article, that’s clear, right?

My biggest harp on GameBoard in the early infancy of the season is that I’ve said I would withhold judgment until the season started…and since it has, I feel I can be critical of him. It is a long, long season, yes, but the sample size we have thus far isn’t promising.

Yes, that's absolutely clear.

In fact, if I’m not mistaken, the user by the name of “remember the coop” writes for that blog. I wonder why he isn’t here to defend himself?

I haven't been in favor of his signing from the beginning

Thought he was overrated, injury prone, a head case, etc. However, I am not ready to write him off just yet. I truly hope that he succeeds during his time here with the Cubs. I just don’t like the people who seem to actually enjoy the fact that Bradley is doing poorly (and I am not saying this fanshot or the author is doing that, but there are definitely people on this site that do).

There seems to be an increase in people

who unabashedly root against particular Cubs – Derrek Lee and Bradley in particular. I’m not sure even the anti-Theriot crowd went that far last year. Fwiw, I also agree that dtpollitt isn’t doing that.

Derrek Lee is good.

Oh, hell no, I want this guy to succeed, he’s on OUR TEAM, of course I want Milton to do well. But if he’s not, I’m going to be very unabashedly critical of Jimbo and Milton for the signing.

On Thursday, the Cubs lost a game to the Cincinnati Reds in large part because Micah Hoffpaiur was playing right field poorly. They haven’t scored enough runs to win games because their batting order has fluctuated daily. There has not been a consistent day from the Cubs in weeks.

Bradley is to blame.

Is he kidding? Give me a BREAK. Bradley didn’t trade Mark DeRosa, and Bradley didn’t make Micah Hoffpauir play badly. Christ. At least I know to never go back to that site again.

Oh, maybe you hadn't heard.

Bradley forced Lou to put Micah in right field by threatening him with an empty Evian bottle. Milton is such a loose canon.

also

Last year, when the Cubs had the best record in the National League, they had a consistent batting order that only changed when Piniella swapped Jim Edmonds for Reed Johnson or Henry Blanco gave Geovany Soto a break.

Yeah, this writer has memory issues. The lineup changed a LOT at the beginning of the season last year, as Dome struggled, Pie was sent down, Riot was moved around… Sheesh.

Yep.

The “consistent lineup argument” is total BS.

The Cubs fielded 112 total batting orders in 2008.

sigh

I just don’t get it, Daver, I really don’t. I mean, the first baseball practice, where Max struck out over and over again, and missed catches, he wanted to quit. BUT HE’S TEN. It’s April 24th and we’re 8-6.

This is like abandoning your car because the gas light comes on, or one of the tires goes flat. Your brand new, $30 million car!
