SHOCKING LINEUP! (4-24 game)
Twittermeyer says:
soerano third, theriot leading off. Lee 5th, behind rami. (Fuky 2nd).
I think that's pretty shocking. First of all, there's no fourth, sixth, seventh or eigth batter. (One presumes the pitcher will bat 9th.)

This can mean only one thing.
GRod got to Lou. When will the corruption end, I ask you? WHEN WILL IT END?!
I've committed to tweeting about the Cubs for the rest of the season. (Does that sound as ridiculous as I think it does?) Anyway, if you're on Twitter, you can follow me here.
I will write
a STRONGLY WORDED LETTER, SENATOR!

Just saw this too
pretty wild. I like seeing Lee moved down. Not sure why Lou would want to start up the Sori lineup questions again, but who knows.
Brian Roberts?
Just a matter of time… Lou is just clearing the leadoff spot for him…
But seriously, I just wonder if the bigger line-up moves is to take the spotlight off the individual player or two who needs to be moved, while accomplishing the goal. Lee needs to be moved, that much is clear. Just moving him makes him the story. The Cubs have had a power outage in the middle of the line-up and moving Soriano there may spark that. So the Cubs have a renovated line-up and that line-up is about an offense that Lou (as he said in the pre-game interview yesterday) believes is struggling to score runs. These moves are about the team as a whole, not Lee or even one or two others.
Yes! Yes! That's it!
Quick, write a Fanpost!

I wanna know
why PEAVY isn’t ever considered for batting leadoff. I mean, really.

To distract from Milton madness?
Just a theory.

Interesting note.
I was poking around RBI oportunities and saw that Sorianno has had the most chances with a runner on thrid (9) and has only managed to get them in a paltry 22% of the time. Theriot in the same situation performs half the time albeit with 3 fewer opportunities. DLee and Ramirez are the two best each having four chances and getting the runner in better than half the time. Way early and small small samples for all of these stats, but here is the page anyways.

So does this mean...
Theriot
Dome
Soriano
Aramis
DLee
Fontentot
Soto
Johnson
Demp

I think the question mark should be moved up in the order...
Lou Brown: "My kinda team, Charlie, my kinda team..."
The question mark should lead off.
It’ll just be lookin’ out at Waiwright goin’, “Is that all you got? Is that all you got?”

how long
will we allow the question mark to end sentences before we move it below the period?

DFA it
baseball is a game of outs......pop out, ground out, line out, pitch out, strike out, fly out, and Fox and Bud's favorite black out
you know
that doesn’t totally suck. You got fairly good speed in Johnson so that Riot can bat him in in later innings, and you got Soto behind Fonty for the same.
Question is, can Sori do it? And this had better be the end of people complaining that Soriano is selfish, and FORCES Lou to bat him first. o.0

I couldn't help it
I had to throw this in just for the mental image it produces, a good chuckle for Friday.
Off of Muskat’s blog talking about the warm weather and the players taking extra BP…
“Even Lou Piniella got a little workout in, throwing a frisbee in the outfield to some of the players.”
if only
we had video of that. It’d be better than Lou swatting at flies in the dugout during pre game interviews
I can’t stand that Gordo calls him “Fukey”. Where did he get that from?

someone said
that the team calls him that. I have a hard time believing it, since we were told he likes “Dome”, but…

then we should start calling him "Witty"
no, wait. strike that. he’s anything but witty.
Lou Brown: "My kinda team, Charlie, my kinda team..."
Yawn.
As I have said before, there is far too much time spent here dissecting lineup selection.

But where are they hitting in the lineup?
You know Ted Lilly keeps lobbying to move out of the 9 spot.

Ted Lilly
DOESN’T hit in the nine-spot. He hits leadoff. He just lets everyone bat in front of him, and let’s Lou put a 9 next to it out of respect.

this is an ACTUAL lineup.

Rec'd
This is a decent lineup for the Cubs, but it’s not the lifesaver the Lee-haters make it out to be.
Derrek Lee is good.
Right.
And what happens if Soriano stops hitting in the 3 spot? Has anyone actually noticed that he’s done a pretty good job leading off so far this year? (.406 OBA, 9 walks in 14 games)
"That's my opinion and if you don't like it, well, I have others." ~ Groucho Marx
I thought about that, too,
but decided to be more optimistic. So, on that optimistic note, Soriano’s approach has continued to impress me. Even Micah took pitches yesterday. I’m beginning to think Gerald Perry is a miracle worker.
Derrek Lee is good.

Hallelujah
this just makes my ever-loving day.
This team needed a shot in the arm and hopefully a lineup that actually makes sense will do it.
I guess I could see Fontenot moved up to break up the righties… but that’s small potatoes to actually getting some base runners for Soriano to drive in… and Derrek has always hit right-handers pretty well anyway, sometimes even having a reverse split. As long as Soriano buys into it, this lineup will produce… and if he doesn’t, drop him to fifth as protection for Ramirez and Bradley, because teams still won’t want to face him and will give Aramis and Milton loads of pitches to punish. Batting Soriano first was always the fifth-best option available to this team, bat him anywhere else and this team scores more runs. now it’s time to execute this game plan on the Cardinals and execute their hopes of being better than the Cubs this year.

drop Sori to fifth
and Lee to… what?
It’s a lineup. They’re all lineups. We had a hundred + of them last year.

100s of lineups
…and none with Soriano at the top that MADE SENSE! You drop Lee to sixth or seventh if he isn’t hitting… keep him higher if he is… it’s not that hard.

what makes sense
is trusting Lou to know his hitters. Soriano has historically done very well leading off, not so much in other positions.
But in the end, lineups really don’t make THAT much of a difference. They don’t. You make too much of this.
