Ticket Prices And The Cubs Sale
From ESPN.com, word that the Mets and Yankees are "looking at" the ticket prices that have left a ton of prime seats empty at a lot of NYC games.
Buried in that article:
[Bud Selig] also hopes the proposed sale of the Chicago Cubs from Tribune Co. to the Ricketts family can close within two months.
"I know they talked about June now, and I hope we can make that," Selig said.
So now it's June? What year? Also in that article, another quote from Selig:
"They're off to a very good attendance start. One team is averaging 44,000 -- the Yankees are at 44 -- and the Metsies are averaging 37,000," he said. "So it would be hard if I went to Pittsburgh or somewhere today and tell them, gee, you know, those two New York clubs are really struggling."
Please tell me he didn't really say "Metsies".

ok
He didn’t say “Metsies”. Except he TOTALLY did say “Metsies.”
Just like the Soxies, the Twinsies, the Raysies, and the Rocksies.

Geez Al...
There’s much to be upset about around here right now, but this isn’t it. Anyone who told you that this thing was going to be done before Opening Day either knows little about business, or was flat out lying to you.
Given the deal structure, court involvement, increased scrutiny from the IRS, and the normal MLB nuttiness, June would be impressive. Once Zell removed the Trib creditors from the equation with bankruptcy, this thing was destined to drag on for awhile.

No, I knew that.
I wish they had just not said it. It wasn’t just said to me, there were numerous pronouncements in public that they wanted it done by Opening Day. And then by May. And now… June.
Best guess: Not till after the season is over.

Does this really affect this years team? I don't see why its such a big story.
“The Cubs are still in limbo!” “Its gotta’ be distracting for a club.” I hear this a lot.
I don’t see how anyone would care unless the new owner’s group planned on shaking things up with a new GM or stadium moving/renovation talk.
Part of me wants the sale to be over, another part of me doesn’t care if its not till the season is over. Either way people are going to continue to harp on it so I just ignore it.

More evidence of many empty expensive seats in New York
Taken in the third inning today at Citi Field, on a beautiful day in NYC. Where is everyone in the front-row seats? Attendance was 40,023.
