I've had enough of the Cubs

I no longer enjoy watching this team.  Ever since last years sweep, I find myself caring less and less about this team.  Last year's pathetic disaster moves their remarkable recent playoff record to 0-9.

Now they not only lose, but they also lost for some amount of time their two best players in the process.  The great left-handed hitter that was so desperately needed is sitting out and collecting millions in the process, it seems to me he's the same Milton Bradley he's always been.

This team has no "ace"  Their closer has a bum knee, and their best hitter may go on the DL with a strained calf muscle.

It is very obvious to me that the Cardinals are the best team in the division.  They are far better than the Cubs in every position except third base and left field.

This team's manager makes decisions based on anger and the fact that the person "pitches" using his left arm.

St. Louis could have the left side of the infield consisting of Neifi Perez and Enrique Wilson, and a bullpen with 2008 Bob Howry and Roberto Novoa and they would still be a good team.

No longer do I find joy in watching this team.  I get extremely bitter and angry when they lose and I really don't care when they win because I just know I will see another 3 and out come October.

I wish nothing but the best for all who read and post on this site, and I thank Al for keeping up such a great site.

Can we seriously get some filtering happening on these posts? How does a post filled with negativity help anything? Just delete this piece of crap post and let the real fans enjoy this excellent site.

Once when I was about 8, my brother and I were playing around the house and decided to race full-speed to the front porch. Well, he beat me and in the process slammed the front glass door before I got there. Being the tender age of 8 (and not the elite physical specimen I am now), I had trouble stopping, and put my hand through the door. I got 12 stitches. I was so brave.

No problems there – we all have our limits, and evidently you’ve reached yours. That’s fine.

All I ask is that you mean what you say and say what you mean. If you’re going to jump, then jump and be done with it. That will leave more room for the rest of us.

It's easy to root for a team when they're playing great

It’s when they hit the rough patches that you see who the true fans are,

I’m very disappointed in this team but I’m never going to stop living and dying with them. I couldn’t if I wanted to. Somewhere along the line the Cubs became part of my DNA.

Actually I think there has been a kind of reverse discrimination against them from Cub fans. Before 2004 they were our brothers in misery now they are the Evil Empire. I liked before and I like them now, I won’t give up on them just because they win.

Please read this

I’ve accepted the fact that perhaps this team might not make a postseason.

I’ve also accepted that Lou and every player will work their @$$ off to win as many games as possible.

If you’re sick of the team don’t bother posting because 90% of us don’t care if you think that.

And guess what, if we win 60 games I’ll still follow Cubs because I’m a fan. And if you’re not a fan and sick of the team then get the F out of here. It will give real fans time to have logical conversations on here.

Maybe I’m being harsh but someone has to say it.

by ak123 on Apr 24, 2009 11:34 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

I agree

But after 15 games you’re ready to say this team might not make the postseason? Really?

by Not Bruce Froemming on Apr 24, 2009 11:56 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

No that's not what I meant

I meant that if this team doesn’t make postseason I will accept it. Not nowRegar, not September but in general.

Regardless of what everyone might think of Al and his opinions (and I think he’s done a great job on here), this bickering, complaining, bitching, etc is just overboard.

I’m an out of state Cubs fan. I don’t get to talk about Cubs with other fans usually. I go here to have my discussions and I enjoy it. However lately I haven’t enjoyed coming here. It’s no fault to Al but more that most of these discussions are miserable. People have no patience. They think they are the fix to the team.

There needs to be a stop to these sort of posts and discussions.

I remember back in 2006 before i found this site I had Extra Innings. I watched every game when we won 66 of them. I had nobody to talk to. The fact is I watched every game and I think I’m enjoying that season more than this one and unfortunately it’s because of some of the people on here.

And on a final note: Not every team makes it to October. Has it really spoiled the “smart” Cubs fans on here that we made back to back post seasons. Yes it’s been disappointing but at least we had glimpse of hope and “what if’s” in October. I would hate to be a Nastionals fan.

I live in Kentucky and everyone around me is a Red’s fan who finds happiness in any failure that the Cubs endure. I found Al’s site along with some others at the same time while searching for info on the Cubs outside of ESPN and frankly I couldn’t take most of the other sites because they all tended to just bitch and then pat them selves on the back enjoying their own wittiness. Unfortunately their humor and with were below a grade school level and fortunately I continued to come back here. I don’t post much, usually read everyday and it seems a trend is developing where some are just negative because they get pissed about something and create a post without actually putting any thought into it going solely off their emotions or initial feelings. Lee’s struggles, Bradley, etc. are all topics I feel are worthy of discussion but it seems to often the conversation begins on the other side of the shark and therefore has nowhere to go except more bitching and name calling, no matter how hard some try to pull it back into a reasonable discussion.

Bandwagon fans are irritating because they are the reason I couldn’t get tickets last October. Remember the croud? It was like a morge after game 1. I HATE BANDWAGON FANS!!!! Where is the loyalty??

+ 1000

they get that way because they are lemmings with spines of jelly – loyalty means nothing

I live in E TN .. and the folks around here think the Atlanta Braves are the best thing since sliced bread until Football Time In Tennessee comes around. Which is why anytime the Cubs come play in Atlanta, it’s easy as heck to go watch them play .. since none of the Braves “fans” ever buy tickets.

Well, Next Year is here .. and Jack's century's gotta end some time .. GO CUBBIES!

No doubt

I got 2nd row behind the visitor’s dugout for $25 from season ticket holders who don’t want to go to the games with the Cubs because there are too many Cub fans around in Atlanta for the one series they have this year. Thank God for crappy Braves fans!!!!!!

so

three game losing streak is your limit?

Ok. Fair enough.

I'm going to go on a limb here

But I think the Cubs probably will have at least one more three-game losing streak this season. And they’ll probably have one go longer than that. Maybe even today.

If you can’t handle that, you should follow some other sport. Even the very best teams look like cr@p sometimes.

Bullpen has been a joke, offense is non existent and the nearly 4/5 of the roster are players on the decline, the championship window is closed after this year

Real facts

I believe I did state one, Last October when the cubs got swept, and I don’t believe you even know the right definition of the term kool aid, just another blinded optimist like the rest of this uptight site. If you truly believe this team is built for a world series this year you are going to be in for a big dissapointement. In the mean time ill wait the 5 years or so it will take to rebuild this team back after all of our declining players contracts expire

Give it 2 more months

I honestly think Lou is doing this pseudo extended spring training like he did in 2007.

Remember all those line up changes, trying guys in various situations to see who can do it and who cannot? I think he’s doing that now.

It’ll then be up to Jimbo Hendry to make the roster changes. I agree the club isn’t running on all cylinders now so it’ll be interesting to see who steps it up and who has to go.

Okay, first of all there's big difference between being critical of

…some of the moves the Cubs have made and saying that you’re no longer going to be a fan.

I agree with you that this team has flaws and was badly put together and so do A LOT of other people on this site. But hat doesn’t mean I’m going to stop rooting for them and hoping for the best.

by bluekoolaide on Apr 25, 2009 2:50 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

there's no such thing

as a team built for the world series. Teams are organic, and they grow together. You never know what a team is going to do. This team could win a world series. Or they could lose 90 games. It’s what the team DOES that matters, not who they are.

You sure like assuming stuff

You assume that I don’t know definitions, and that I am a “blinded optimist”. Wrong on both counts. I have my frustrations with this years team as well as anyone, but getting on this blog and ranting about that will not make my life any better. So whats your point? Do you want to be the guy that said the Cubs won’t win a WS this year? Really you wanna be “that guy” cool but seriously the position is already taken by a bunch of professional sports writers. What I don’t get is why you would come on any Cubs blog / fan site and post something so negative? What does this do for you? Are you starving for attention that much that you need to stir up the pot in order to get noticed? If you honestly want legitimate discussion, then there are much better ways to get it on this site, and there are lots of fans that fall into the realist category that would be willing to discuss some of your points. Now I will assume something: You don’t want discussion, you just wanted to piss everyone off.

The Cubs were a much better team than the Dodgers last year, and there was no reason why they got swept besides the fact that they only played 3 f-ing games.

lets just hope tallon didnt screw us with the large signings of campbell and huet…its gonna be a bumpy road when it comes time to resign some of our stars (keith, kane toews)

You bet... check out this site

http://www.hockeybuzz.com/cap-central/team.php?team=CHI

I’d be interested to know if they re-negotiate Campbell’s deal sort of like the long deals Franzen and Zetterberg got with the Wings. Even though total salary goes up, the per year cap hit goes down. I could see $1.5-$1.75M freed cap space doing that.

2009-2010 isn’t going to be too bad. It’s 2010-2011 when Keith, Kane and Toews all are RFA’s. Throw in Ladd and Hjalmarsson to the mix and Dale had better be on his toes.

I think the key is dealing Huet. If they take on similar salary for a good centre or big D-man that’s OK, just deal this guy. $5.625 for each of 3 more years is too much. Niemi I think is better than Crawford. Re-sign Khabi for 2+2 that will yield a lower cap hit than $6.75M a year and they may have a chance to give Havlat a long term deal like Zetterberg.

It’s going to be close and if Dale doesn’t make the right moves, he’ll be out before the next season starts.

The Huet signing was awful in my opinion

Khabi has outplayed him the entire year, Huet lets in about 2 softies a game, how great does Tallon look when the goalie he tried getting rid of in the offseason is now the starter throughout the playoffs over one of his prized free agent signings.

Lets Go Hawks!

by CubsBall2202 on Apr 25, 2009 2:12 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Oh he knows it was a blunder, a big one

He counted his chickens before they were hatched.

Those were moves out of desperation. That will no longer be tolerated. It’s like with Campbell, he plays way better when the ice surface is wide open but just like last year with the Sharks, come playoff time, he’s completely outmatched. He’s worth nothing close to $7.1M a year and the problem with 7 more years on his contract, the ‘Hawks can’t deal him. It’s like dealing Soriano, who’s gonna take on that contract, especially in the NHL with a salary cap, that may actually go down.

I just want to leave the UC tonight around 10:30-11 with a ’Hawks win. First things first. It will go a long way in the learning experience if the ’Hawks can win at least one series.

Jury's still out on Campbell IMO but the

Huet signing just looks horrible. I hate to get ahead of myself (esp. when it’s baseball season) but I’m not optimitic about 09-10 with Huet as our starter.

Also, how is Tallon (assuming he’ll still be here by that time) going to be able to sign Keith, Toews and Kane to long term deals at the same time?

by bluekoolaide on Apr 25, 2009 2:53 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

That's the pickle I described somewhat

in what Tallon has got the team into, mostly for 2010-11.

Campbell would be great in olympic hockey with the 100’ wide rink. Watch closely tonight, now forechecking him makes him less effective. Better yet, if you know any Sharks fans or have access to games from last years’ playoffs, watch how awful he was. He needs to learn how to maneuver in tight spots, watching Keith would sure help. I like his offencive capabilities but as a D-man, let’s just say he’ll never be confused with #2.

I’m not sure if Huet can be trusted with the big work load. He doesn’t exactly have the “Edmonton Gretzkys” in front of him to offset some soft goals. Plus in the playoffs defence is just so much more important.

Sweet Lou for Mayor in '11.

by blackhawk24 on Apr 25, 2009 5:17 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

How soon we forget!

Khabi’s play the first two years of his contract was less than desirable. A goalie, of course — performs better with a better team in front of him. Khabi was dangled in front of everybody this summer, and there were no takers. I think he’s much too old to be offered a more than a 1-year deal. And, of course, this being his contract year — well, he might have upped his play a bit, don’t you think? As far as I’m concerned, he is a serviceable NHL goalie who got hot (in his walk year) with a good team, and won a Stanley Cup. Great timing.

I would think the Capitols…and even the Canadians…wouldn’t mind having Huet back, given the goalie shuffle in Montreal. Jose Theodore isn’t very impressive — ask any Avs fan. I’d take Huet over Theodore any time. The Caps haven’t quite ridden Theodore’s back into the playoffs. They can score. It’s up to Theodore to just give up one less goal then the Caps score. That’s not going to win any Stanley Cups.

Given the fact that the Hawks really thought (mistakenly) that they would be able to trade Khabi before the season started, Huet’s deal doesn’t seem out of line — after all, he essentially led the Caps out of the doldrums last season.

The Campbell signing seems to be the real mistake, but I don’t know how that could possibly have been forseen.

by San Diego Smooth Jazz Man on Apr 25, 2009 3:27 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Khabi's first 2 years of the contract was with a team

that was in the gutter, from upper management all the way through the 20th guy that dressed any given night. Khabi was also less consistent and injuries were more serious. Yes, he’s playing in a contract year and yes he’d be a bit of a risk going forward, but the ‘Hawks are not yet sure of Niemi and Crawford as a main player. Either would be a good backup but personally I favor Niemi. If the ’Hawks would be more consistent on offence, I’m feeling better with Huet. Now, some of the cash saved from not signing Khabi could go other places and 1st on my list is a solid centre, not a Selke candidate but an Art Ross candidate.

The same can be said of Havlat. He was a bit of a lockerroom issue in years 1 and 2 here and getting rid of Koci and Lang helped him focus more. I’d like to think the ‘Hawks would consider re-signing him but that’s a tough situation too. How do they replace him? I think the Bolland, Havlat, Ladd line is excellent.

Campbell at $4.1M, I’m less upset than at $7.1M. He just isn’t a solid D-man. If Hjalmarsson plays like I think he can, then its possible Campbell’s weakness won’t make the ’Hawks as vulnerable. His contract is almost un-tradeabe and with the cap possibly going down in the next season or 2, it becomes even more of an issue.

Sweet Lou for Mayor in '11.

by blackhawk24 on Apr 25, 2009 5:25 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Signing Havlat

is a must. No question. Any injury ‘problem’ that has plagued him is no longer an issue. That line needs to stay intact.

by San Diego Smooth Jazz Man on Apr 25, 2009 11:27 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

What I worry about

is the attitude issues that plagued his career both in Ottawa and his 1st 2 years here. Injuries are always a concern, yes and I’m less worried about his shoulder now than even 3 months ago. If Q can keep him in check, I’m totally fine with him returning. It then may come down to $$$. It’s going to be a very interesting off-season for the Blackhawks.

But first things first; winning game 6 tomorrow night.

changes with maturity. If I was injured so much (re:Bradley) I’d be pissed off all the time too…

I completly agree,

I can see Keith asking for Campbell money, seeing as he is lightyears ahead of campbell in terms of skill.

I dont know what team is going to be interested in taking on Huet’s nightmare of a contract…lets hoe theres someone out there.

That being said I think most of the players on the team would like to stay and continue to play in Chicago, so hopefully we can get some home town discounts, or, like you said, its goodbye Tallon.

by jeff021690 on Apr 25, 2009 2:14 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

I don't know how Keith

is not a Norris finalist. It’s about as stupid as Maddog not getting the gold glove for the NL pitcher.

Huet at $5.625M each for 3 more years is not good, but IMO it’s not an impossible contract to move. If the ‘Hawks can get in return a good centre-man even at the same money, I’m OK with that. It puts Sharp back on the wing where he belongs, takes off pressure from Bolland to consistently produce as a 3rd line centre and allows the flexibility to move Kane off Toews line if necessary to balance the scoring more across the top 3 lines. Then it allows the ’Hawks to consider Khabi for a 2+2 or 2+3 and bring up Niemi, for good.

Micah Hoffpauir just went deep at the top of the 7th. Fontenot is on base and the Cubs are threatening to put up some more insurance runs.

The Cubs now have 7 runs and look like they are going to win today in St. Louis.

Even if they don’t win, I will be glad to see that they put up some runs and starting pitching has again kept them in the game yet again.
