Who's Available
I thought I'd make a post on all of the guys that are possibilties for this Cubs team, since none of us seem happy with the current team. Backup INF Morgan Ensberg Chris Gomez Marcus Giles Ray Durham Backup OF Frank Catalanatto (sp) Jim Edmonds Juan Encarnacion Geoff Jenkins Pitchers Mark Mulder Mark Redmon Kieth Foulke Eric Gagne Mike Stanton Mike Timlin Those are all of the guys that stood out to me.

I want Jim Edmonds back here
I also might get on the phone with Ray Durham.

I'll take...
Gomez, Durham, Edmonds, Foulke, and Timlin. That’d work for me!

JUST WONDERING ????
If the Cubs Brass thought nothing like this could ever happen…. Edmonds or Durham would be fine ….They had better start looking quick,,,,How come so many fans felt uneasy with the roster ??

Did you see the injury to Juan Encarnacion?
This blog entry just sank any dreams you may have of becoming a GM someday.

One possibility
Brandon Wood.
He was recently called up by the Angels, who have had quite a few injuries of their own. But after five games he’s had a total of 1 at-bat. Their manager even went out of his way to say how he needed guys to get on-base and not power right now (even though wood got on base last year in AAA in over 100 games at a .375 clip).
People are expecting them to send him back down any day. So it may be that the Angels aren’t too sold on Wood and would be willing to deal him. I doubt we match up too well with them, but he’d be my first choice given the alternatives. He’ll strike out a ton but in 2008 he showed marked improvement in his k rate and kk/bb ratio. He could back up SS and 3b in a pinch (though he should not be confused with someone who plays excellent D) and would definitely provide some thump with his bat. The bloom seems to be off his rose, but at 24 he is still developing.
Anyway, that’d be my pick if we had something the Angels wanted besides Vitters.

A different possibility
A more defense focused guy would be Jeff Baker. The Rox are having issues even getting Stewart enough ABs, so he may be available (especially now that Stewart seems a viable alternative for them at 2b). He can play 1b, 3b, 2b, RF, and LF and would probably be a lot cheaper. His bat isn’t better than what we have already, but his defensive flexibility would be nice.

If we were to
get Wood, we would have to start him. A guy with that much talent needs to start — to at least see what he can do.

I'd love to get Brandon Wood.
But the Angels still seem to like him, enough that his price would be pretty high.

Ah, too bad
I’d love to see the Cubs use him much in the same way the Rox are using Stewart. Oh well, dare to dream.

I gave the answer before the season began
Ben Zobrist.
So far this year, he’s started 6 games in RF, 1 at SS, and 1 at 2B and 1 in CF. He’s batting .278 / .366 / .611 for a .977 OPS.
It’s too late to get him now.

Zobrist might still be available.
The Rays have Reid Brignac waiting in the wings. If you could identify the Rays’ biggest need, maybe you could pry Zobrist away from them.

I've always been
an Ensberg fan, but didn’t he have concussion issues last season?
