Anyone here a member of SABR?
Society for American Baseball Research. I was at their website today, trying to find out more about what they do and what a membership would entail. The price seems pretty reasonable ($45 if you are under 30) and it looks like they cool some cool stuff.
Anyone know how easy it is to get involved with their reasearch? How are their publications? Ever been to any of the chapter meetings? Any info you have would be great.

No idea. I’d say Colin would be the one to ask.

Yes
I don’t have much time to be active but their publications make it worth the dues to me. The two books Deadball Stars of the AL and NL were great. As for getting involved in the research, I suspect it isn’t that difficult if you have the interest and time.

You don't have to do any research to join SABR.
rlpete is right about the Deadball Stars books — excellent.
SABR isn’t just about statistics; a lot of people think it is because of the term “sabermetrics”. Much of what SABR members do is research into baseball history; you can learn a lot about the history of the game from the publications. I’ve been a SABR member since 1983 and the publications are all excellent.

I know its not just about stats
I am really interested in being part of some of the research they do, however whether it is statistical, historical or whatever else. Thanks for the help! I’m pretty sure I’m going to join.

Please do.
You’ll enjoy the publications, and research can be done on your own or in connection with other members. Publications are all written by members, so if you have an interesting topic and do good research and writing, you can have your research published. Good luck!

On the research
Occasionally in the monthly newsletter there are people looking for help with research as well. Sometimes they want someone in another part of the country who can go to local libraries and look at old newspapers.
There are also lots of research committees that focus on different areas.

Gratuitous image.
I've committed to tweeting about the Cubs for the rest of the season. (Does that sound as ridiculous as I think it does?) Anyway, if you're on Twitter, you can follow me here.
