I know it's the "in" thing to be optimistic in here.

But this team couldn’t beat Buttermaker’s Bears right now.

Thanks for the jump, Sue.

The game looked so promising after sori's homerun.

But it wasn’t meant to be. Damn Lilly, stop walking people and you wouldn’t have gotten into so much trouble.

Wait a sec. How can the Cubs win a game with only three hits? It's not all Lilly....

He deserves a nice slice of blame for this one

imagine if we could have managed more than 3 hits!?!?!?

are you watching the same game?

It had little to do with walks.

it actually had a lot to do with the walks.

Why did Lilly walk Reynolds to start the 4th on 4 PITCHES? He also walked the catcher before the pitcher. Get it done son.

Very true

All our pitching problems so far stem from too many damn walks!!

Look.

This game was broken open by fontenot holding the ball for slightly too long at third and by 2 walks on pitches that were getting called as strikes for haren. Furthermore, we need to actually hit the ball if we’d like to win. Chill out, it’s April.

Awesome

I’ve been waiting all night for someone to play the “it’s April” card.

Because as we all know, April losses count less

I don't even count wins and losses til after the all-star break

I’m really not even sure why they bother to keep score.

by bluekoolaide on Apr 27, 2009 11:15 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I obviously know that wins are "equal"

I also know we are going to lose a bunch of games this year, and if we stay at .500 while waiting for a bunch of people to get healthy, I’m not going to freak out.

Preempt: I’m not a pollyanna, I think we should upgrade the bullpen stat, and I wouldn’t mind getting rid of gathright since he seems totally worthless. But no, I"m not going to freak out in April.

I DO agree with you that it's too early to freak out

Problem is it doesn’t say early all that long in baseball.

We need to start getting things sorted out asap.

by bluekoolaide on Apr 27, 2009 11:19 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Although it is April I think that even early in the season we can get a feel for what the tone for this year is going to be.

If all we ever hear is “the bullpen blew it” or “only three hits?!” that does not signal a good outlook for us.
Obviously there is time to improve
Hope I am wrong

by honeymunchkin666 on Apr 27, 2009 11:19 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I disagree

April was a pretty good month for the Cubs in 2006. Then it all went to hell.

The Cubs stunk on ice until Memorial Day in 2007. Then they took off and won the division.

I think there are some problems on this team, but nothing that can’t be fixed. Tuesday, with most of the regulars coming back, will begin that part.

THose pitches weren't strikes

Ted walked 4 and 2 of them scored.

With this popgun lineup

we needed a stellar effort out of Lilly to even have a chance. Sadly, that didn’t happen. Let’s go get em tomorrow with ARAM and DLEE back in the lineup and start winning some damn games!!

Why didn't Hendry sign Eckstein instead of Miles?

You must be a lot of fun to be around.
