Cub fan rant

I have been a Cubs fan for over 60 years, so I think I am entited to rant a bit.  I think Jim Hendry, who has made some good trades and signings in the past, has  destroyed  this team. He traded Jason M for a pitcher who he later released, He did this free up monies to sign Milton B.  who is a cancer  that will help to defeat this years chances.  He signed a closer who I don't think can close. He traded Da Rosa and does not have a everyday  second baseman. There is no middle relief in this bullpen. To improve over last year all he needed to do was  get some middle relief and maybe a left handed  power bat.  To me Wood and DaRosa look pretty good in light of the recent injuties.  Thanks for letting me unload.

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of SB Nation or Al Yellon, managing editor (unless it's a FanPost posted by Al). FanPost opinions are valued expressions of opinion by passionate and knowledgeable baseball fans.

Not another post that would have been fine as a comment under several other posts. There’s nothing really new here.

I wonder why Hendry is a GM not the endless line of

posters who are blasting his every move this season. The man has made moves we all wondered about (Edmonds last season for perfect example) and people want to write Hendry and the 2009 season off on April 27? AUGH! Call me crazy, but I will write this season off when we are eliminated. Until then, i might bitch at times, but I am sticking with Hendry. I have faith Hendry will make a move or three, he always does.

If my comments above aren't clear.

Hendry is at fault for the outfield and bullpen issues. However, I agree (budget willing) he will find a way to make moves to correct this problem.

He has made good moves and likes the big splash. Personally, I prefer younger high upside guys rather than the 30+ year old proven player.

In the future, please use the official form

See here for a blank.

Your post should look like this:

How long should the Cubs give Hendry as GM?

Alright, while I personally don’t think Hendry will ever have much of a significant career in the Majors, I am willing to give him some time to produce as the type of GM the Cubs imagined him to be. I’ve stated here before why I don’t think Hendry will ever live up to most fans expectations at the front office, and that is his god awful terrible trades, which doesn’t allow him to field a decent team, and when he does make a decent trade, it’s nothing but an anomoly ([YOU NEED A FAMOUS PERSON TO AGREE WITH YOU] said basically word for word the same thing, on last nights game – so, to whoever said they wouldn’t listen to me because I don’t have a “trained eye”, do you think [FAMOUS PERSON WHO AGREES WITH ME] has a trained eye?).

Anyway, having said that, I think that maybe if he is still struggling after this week, he needs to be moved to assistant GM at the very least and maybe even fired. I would put [YOU NEEDA PROPOSED REPLACEMENT GM] in as GM, who I have much more confidence in and I imagine Lou would too, who could shake things up and would be a good [ANOTHER TALENT OF PROPOSED REPLACEMENT] as well.

Not at all saying this after one game and is in no way a knee jerk reaction, but even the staunchest Hendry fan must admit his struggles in the 2nd half last year and it’s due to other GMs making the adjustment to him and so far what Ive seen from him in the free agent acquisitions and today, I don’t see any signs of him making an adjustment as his trades looks exactly the same as last year.

Who would you put in as GM if Hendry continues his struggles in the front office?

And don't forget the unwritten rules

Spend no less than five hours a day reading BCB. That way you can insure that you don’t repeat anything that has been written in the past week. Use no less than five search engines as a backup.

If at any time you get frustrated by thinking there are more posts about posting, posting content, posting etiquette, etc., start over from the beginning.

Sorry in advance Al

I been a reader of yours for years. I love the daily front page game threads and recaps. I also enjoy Josh’s minor league report. Besides that this site is quickly turning into a cubs message board. It’s getting overrun more and more everyday.

you can just look at the front page posts if you like

your complaint about the site “turning into a cubs message board” doesn’t really make sense. that’s kind of the point of the SBN format – the front page is for content written by or approved by the site’s owner(s) (Al in this case), while the sidebar is for content written by individuals with little to no moderation by the site. just look at the front page stuff if the sidebar is too much noise for you.

you pick where to click.

I disagree a little....

Fanpost are for well thought out, new, and related subjects or thought out ideas/opinions. Not 1 liners from every member of the blog stating “Milton Bradley isn’t good” or “Ryan Theriot can’t play defense”. That’s message board material or better suited for a comment under a related thread in my opinion.

There are alot of long-time AL Yellon followers here that thoroughly enjoy the daily read. Problem is the abundance of non-sense post are over-taking the well thought out ones. It’s not hard to sift through 1 or 2 but its slowly became more and more and more. I respect your stance but hope you understand my point too. This is a pretty large community of fans here that enjoy and respect good related posts.

I'm

going to go ahead and pretend that your kidding. All the recent posts on this site have proved that BCB is becoming nothing more than a horrible message board for incredibly less than intelligent people.

I just can’t look away anymore, I used to come to this site to read good conversation. Now it’s just to see the train wreck.

by tizzle on Apr 27, 2009 8:41 PM CDT up reply actions

kidding about it being Al's board?

if he wanted to, he could delete every post that comes up. If he sees fit to make another post about what’s appropriate to write here, that’s his preogative – and no one else’s.

He choses, for the most part, to not do that. But that doesn’t make this any less his board. It’s his. We get to use it because he lets us.
