why all this hate towards Demp in the other thread?
if Z had the same (lack of) breaks in the first inning that Dempster had today, that inning could also have had a few runs against him. Sometimes you get breaks, sometimes you don’t. Dempster is not throwing that bad. Let’s hope he can give us 7 today.
What difference will it make if we don’t score any runs?

Brutality
Seven hitters in the Cubs lineup today hitting less than .240. SEVEN….including Dempster. That isn’t going to get it done anywhere.
The pitching has been mediocre so far but if that lineup doesn’t start producing, and soon, this is going to be a long, long, long season.
Who needs a stinkin' tag line? What are they for anyway?

The Cubs have played 5 games all year with their "A" lineup
Due to injuries. As a result, their has been little to no continuity in the lineup and roles have not been established.
Give it time – once this lineup is healthy and people can get settled into their spots in the order, things will be fine.

So I am sure everyone saw Soriano's quote that he thought this year's team...
doesn’t have the fire that the previous two years did and that they are giving away "W"’s…what do we think about that? Should that be an alarm bell or is he trying to motivate the team?
I actually didn't see that, and it should set off alarm bells
Maybe “Not Bruce Froemming” should call Soriano a moron, and tell him it’s April

Actually, injuries aren't why RJ is playing today

I am going to ask this question one more time
When is the last time Reed Johsnon hit the ball out of the infield. I try and watch every game and I havent seen it. Not once. But guess what. We have the lovely opportunity to see our catcher, who hits 1/3 his weight, our 2b, who sadly does hit his weight, and our 3B, who cant hit lefties. I think instead of building a new clubhouse for the boys, Jim just hired players who could fit in the one they have now.

It's simple;
some of us feel really bad about what we’re seeing-we care about when the Cubs lose and when they look bad doing it.
Some handle it one way. Some handle it another. the problems start when one group starts dictacting what they other should or shouldn’t say (because they don’t like it).

by bluekoolaide on Apr 29, 2009 4:33 PM CDT up reply actions
To be honest, no.
I mean, it would take a lot to make me mad, something life altering. I’ve learned that there’s a lot of things in life that aren’t fair, are wrong, or just suck. I wasn’t dealt the best hand at life, a lot of people weren’t, but I’ve learned I can take a lot of that angst or negativity and burn it up doing something creative or active. I understand the need to rant though, it’s cool. I’m just a bit different though, as I’d rather just try and make at least one person laugh when I get frustrated, rather than adding that frustration onto the pile.
by Craig in South Bend on Apr 29, 2009 4:39 PM CDT up reply actions
But this is more than just bad play
This is the inability for a 97 win team a year ago to execute, and for the management to make quality decisions. That is what bothers me. By saying that Reed Johnson hasnt hit a ball out of the infield is venting, but it is also truth. He is hitting 5th in this lineup because we do not have anyone to back up Ramirez that is worth a damn. Fontenot is a great player, but he barely takes care of his position defensively, let alone one that he has really never played before.
I am not venting because of one simple thing. I am venting because this team is mediocre at best right now because of poor play and poor upper management decision making. If I could tell it to Jim directly I would, but since I cannot, I choose to vent among those who seem at times to feel the same way.

Who could we bring up that can play 3rd?
I’d really rather not see Miles and Fontenot in the same lineup too much more

Why waste Marmol in this train wreck?
"He can't hit, he can't field, he can't run—all he can do is beat you."
Because he hasn't pitched since Friday
And he needs regular work to stay sharp.

4 runs is not a trainwreck.
In Soccer maybe…but not baseball.

They wanted to pitch
Marmol today anyway

He needs the work to stay sharp, and you want to keep this at 4 runs to give us a chance....

There are only two sides to Cotts
“Oh shit, he’s coming” and “thank God he’s leaving”
good one :-)

Apparently
They’re playing “Blitzkrieg Bop” on the PA system… I kind of wish they played “I wanna be sedated” instead…
That's the Cubs NLDS theme song!
For two straight years, the entire lineup has appeared to be very, very sleepy.

Why no
double switch here?
I guess the only real option would be hill for Soto…
Oriole by nurture. Cub by marriage.
no need for a doble switch here...

Marmol
obviously need the work. 3-0 to Lopez. Now 3-1. 94 mph.

Ojeda
bunts. Soto gets the throw off to first. Runners advance, one out. Tracey to the plate.
