Thanks
I needed some good news today. I had a root canal and the Cubs are losing 4-0.

The game at first
I had enough stuff pumped into me during the operation not to feel much ( though it took an extra dose) , but now it is wearing off so lets say a tie,

aw, look!
he’s still a Cub!

At this point in time
I wish Murton was patrolling right field for us.

bring back Brant Brown
baseball is a game of outs......pop out, ground out, line out, pitch out, strike out, fly out, and Fox and Bud's favorite black out
Seriously?
I've committed to tweeting about the Cubs for the rest of the season. (Does that sound as ridiculous as I think it does?) Anyway, if you're on Twitter, you can follow me here.
Right now
Bradley hasn’t changed my opinion that he was a bad signing. I would rather be paying Murton a lot less to probably be providing us with more offense and better defense than what we are currently getting our of RF. Plus, I know that Murton always gives it 110% out there, regardless of what he is being paid.

I understand that you, like many Cubs fans...
…are frustrated by Bradley’s groin injury and slow start to the season. But suffice to say you’ll have a very, very hard time defending the position that Matt Murton would outplay Milton Bradley offensively or defensively (especially in right field) over the course of a season – and, yes, even if Bradley only appears in, say, 100 games.

No, I know that
That’s why I stated my argument in the present tense instead of more general past/present/future tense.
Basically what it comes down to is my inability to root for Milton Bradley. I want him to be a monster for our club and everything, but I am just finding it very difficult. And yes, as Drew said, I miss that ginger and the pictures of him on unicorns.

oh, what the heck, for old times sake

I guess I see what you mean.
I’m just having a hard time getting to this parallel universe in which the Cubs held on to Matt Murton to play right field when he really wasn’t very good at that position defensively and brought little to none of the offensive production one would expect out of a right fielder.

Is that the one where Jacque Jones
played Center field, with his amazing throwing arm of DOOM?

Yep, and perhaps Jason Dubois in left field.

yet
Theriot still plays short. So there are SOME similarities. :P

move him to RF
and let Murton play SS
baseball is a game of outs......pop out, ground out, line out, pitch out, strike out, fly out, and Fox and Bud's favorite black out
Yes, cause we wouldn't want a RF
with questionable defensive skills whose primary offensive abilities is in their On Base Percentage right?

OBP doesn't do you much good...
…when you can’t run particularly well. Plus, his career OBP vs. RHP is much less impressive – .339.
Oh, and you probably should’ve stopped with “…we wouldn’t want a RF with questionable defensive skills…”

psst: Note to self:
he’s talking about Bradley.
To which I say, while Bradley is a lot better, he’s probably not REALLY 100%, he hasn’t really seen a fly ball in two weeks, and he’s not Fukudome.

Well, self, if he's describing Bradley...
…as having “questionable defensive skills,” he’s wrong. In fact, I’d go so far as to say a Milton Bradley recovering from a groin injury is a better defender than a healthy Matt Murton. Oh, yeah. I went there.

I think the Murton/Patterson/Nomar post
all could have been one post, titled “ex Cub updates” instead of three seperate posts
baseball is a game of outs......pop out, ground out, line out, pitch out, strike out, fly out, and Fox and Bud's favorite black out
Eh, it IS just a fanshot (or three of them)...
but yeah, it does seem a bit silly to make it three separate successive posts with the exact same statement when it could have been combined.
They were done by two different people.
Discussion might be different on each one. I don’t have a problem with those being separate fanshots.
"You can observe a lot just by watching." ~ Yogi Berra
I dont have a problem with it either
was just a personal opinion. An X-Cub Round Up FanPost might not be a bad idea. Seems many are more interested in two things (so far)
1. explaining how the season is over
2. letting us know how every former Cub is doing
again, jsut my personal opinion, not saying it is right or wrong
baseball is a game of outs......pop out, ground out, line out, pitch out, strike out, fly out, and Fox and Bud's favorite black out
Matt Murton
What’s next, 8-part series on the career injustice being done Jason Dubois and Josh Kroeger? Or a retrospect on how Tuffy Rhodes was destined to be one of the all-time Cubbie greats if only he wasn’t jerked around by the organization?
The love Cub fans have for Triple A journeyman outfielders with little tangible major league skill set is amazing. Murton is treated as though he actually sprouted out of some of your wombs.
The window for winning a World Series may have waned.
Congratulations.
You have just won today’s Hyperbole Award. I see nothing here regarding that, merely a mention that an ex-Cub was recalled.

As posted here before
Apparently our fans aren’t the only one to think great things of him: http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/free-matt-murton
I saw that article a while back...
…and was a little disappointed in the fact that it completely glossed over his shortcomings as a player. As the article mentions, however, he does hit LHP very well.

As usual, you wildly overstate things...
It was a freaking FanShot with a throw-away statement. Not a single person has professed their undying love to him in this thread (at least not seriously).
But I guess all it takes is saying the words Matt Murton to get you foaming at the mouth.
Do other word combinations work as well? I’ll try:
pitch count
Rich Hill
Piniella isn’t god
on-base percentage
I wish Matt the best.
His flaws as a player have been so well-documented there’s really not much sense in repeating them. (I would presume the Rockies are going to be facing some LHP in the near future.) So, again, I wish him the best.
