Veal Makes Pirates Roster
Donnie Veal, whom Pittsburgh selected in the Rule 5 draft, made the Pirates opening day roster, despite struggling with his control throughout spring training.
So, mark you calendars for May 25 - if he's still there, it will be his first series against the Cubs.

Try the Veal!

He's the second Veal(e) to pitch for the Pirates.
The 1970 Pirates had pitchers named Moose, Lamb and Veale, and for the vegetarians, McBean.

Donald Veal = BAD
It’s sad that the Pittsburgh Pirates have deteriorated to such a state as they have. Pittsburgh is a great city that shares a lot of parallels with Chicago, to include being an unbelievably great sports town. And Heinz Field is among the best ballparks in this country. Too bad the Pirates can get their act together. There is so much opportunity to restore baseball glory in Pittsburgh. This was a franchise that for many years was among the elite in baseball.

Heinz Field?
you talking football? Or are you referring to PNC Park? Love PNC Park. It’s on my Top 3 list with Pac Bell (err AT&T Park) and Wrigley, of course.

Not surprising
Huntington is realistic – he knows the team is a year or two away from a serious push. He can afford to carry Veal for a bit and see what he has. I expect Veal to be a Pirate for good (that is, don’t expect them to offer him back).

What? How did Veal end up with the Pirates?
I thought he was one of the top five prospects in the Cub organization? Who did we get from the Pirates??

Veal
has been on a decline/stagnated for awhile … well, since he got past A ball. The warning signs were always there in A ball. He came off another inconsistent year and was exposed in the Rule 5 draft, where the Pirates picked him up.

Struggling with control is saying it mildly
15 walks in 14 innings. I don’t expect that the Cubs will ever regret losing him especially if the Pirates try and keep him in the majors all season. It is going to be a long lost season for him.
